So over the past few weeks I have been picking up things here & there, and after giving some things a try I decided to do a quick post about it! Here they are:
It's a little bit of everything: Lush, Dior, MAC and drugstore - my weapon of choice being Shoppers Drug Mart
Honey, I Washed The Kids: I finally decided to get that Honey I Wash the Kids soap, having just finished my Sultana Of Soap soap (which I really love, minus the random dried fruit it leaves behind at the bottom of my shower). It smells good but I wouldn't go bananas over it. It lathers OK, just like any other soap, to be honest. It looks very cute with the honeycomb design at the top.
American Cream: I really wanted to try this hair conditioner after seeing Tiffany D talk about it in a vide a few days ago. It smells great and I don't mind changing conditioners from time to time. I am a loyal Aveda Color Conserve shampoo & conditioner user, but every now and then I switch it up because I get tired of the same old scent. My hair has been feeling a bit dull lately and is due for some extra moisture.
MAC "Forever Green" Powerpoint eyeliner: I like powerpoint eyeliners, and after swatching this, I fell in love. I originally went in to see if my MAC had Euristocrats stuff out yet (it didn't), but it had Graphic Gardens which I was unimpressed by, so I just opted for this beautiful eyeliner. It works very nicely with brown eyes when put on the waterline and smudged in the bottom lash line.
Dior Addict Colour Reviving Lip balm: This is really cool. Similar concept to the O-glow line by Smashbox but in a way more luxurious and aesthetically pleasing packaging. The box and lip balm itself are just so pretty! Very moisturizing, smells great, and turns a customized shade meant to enhance your natural lip colour. Mine goes a very nice rosey coral colour. I've seen hot pink on others. I guess it depends on your lip pigmentation. I put Underage on top of it today, good stuff.
Diorshow Waterproof: This doesn't budge. After a gross 10 hour work day last week I got home only to look at my reflection in the mirror and see that my mascara had transferred to the top of my brow bone and I looked like an idiot, so I knew it was time to go back to ol' faithful - which for me is Diorshow Waterproof. I like this a lot better than the regular Diorshow, and it doesn't dry out as fast. I have pretty big eyes so I don't mind the giant brush, either.
Cetaphil cleanser: After finishing a terrible Neutrogena grapefruit-scented cleanser and my MAC Lightful cleanser last week, I decided it was time for me to try this. The wonderful Lorraine always raves about this and how it helped out her skin a lot, so I'm giving it a try. So far so good. I am planning on buying the moisturizer as well as soon as I run out of my Clinique one.
My skin is going crazy again and I ran out of my trusty Mario Badescu drying cream, so I have to stick it out another couple of days before I can get to a place that sells his products... a spa about 40 minutes away. I'm hoping to also get the Drying Mask, Buffering Lotion aaand Healing Mask. I have great faith in his products. Drying Cream has been the only thing I've used on breakouts that worked. I've used prescription strength stuff before, drugstore, high end, you name it. This was the best. Plus, he's Romanian, which is pretty cool!
Alright, so before I get too rambly, I'd like to conclude this with an "outfit of the night" - what I wore last night to a casino/night out birthday party of one of my best friends. I didn't get the chance to photograph the eye makeup, but I didn't steer too far from the basics. I did a "lollipop26 approved" combination of Sable and Carbon on the eye :)
Blouse: Hugo Boss
Belt: sniped it from a BCBG dress
Shoes: no clue where I got them from. I have a shoe collecting problem haha
I'm not really into accessorizing too much, I like keeping it simple - so a classic Tissot watch and a thin, feminine Paloma Picasso style heart necklace in gold.
Hope you all had a great weekend, and an even greater Monday (yeah right. Mondays are never great).
This tag has been floating around for a while and I see everyone doing it, so I decided to chime in... here goes:
1. Things you cannot leave the house without:
It's probably a really non-girly thing to say, but I'm not a purse person, so I don't have the one purse I always carry around, ready for me to grab. Most of the time the bare essentials I take with me are keys, phone, slim envelope wallet and a lip gloss jammed in to one of the coin compartments. I like to travel light :)
2. Favourite brand of Make Up:
It's too hard to choose just one! MAC wins by volume since most of the things I own are by them, but YSL and Dior are creeping up into my drawers more and more and I am very impressed and happy with what I have so far.
3. Favourite flower:
It's a tie between Calla Lillies and Bird Of Paradise... I seem to like strange flower shapes...
4. Favourite clothing store:
My favourite kind of store is the boutique with tons of different brands... I like online shopping a lot for inspiration. As for "real life" stores - Anthropologie is really nice for unique tops and very feminine ensembles. If I had to choose one brand's store specifically, it would be BCBG. Their runway dresses and Max Azria blazers are fantastic.
5. Favourite perfume:
I go through phases. I don't think I could live without Armani Code though...
6. Heels or Flats:
I like both! I always opt for heels when going out though.
7. Do you make good grades:
Yes, especially in the classes I enjoy! I have always been into science, and I study biochemistry in school. I hate physics with a passion, though, and have always been terrible at it.
8. Favourite colours:
Just give me black, white, grey and beige, and I'll be content. I'm not too picky with colours, I like them all!
9. Do you drink energy drinks:
No, I don't like them by themselves. Vodka Redbull is bearable on occasion.
10. Do you drink juice:
Yes! I love juice. Pineapple juice, apple juice, orange juice, pear nectar, peach nectar... yum! I own a juice maker and my favourite home made combination is probably apple & carrot. Sounds crazy, but it's amazing.
11. Do you like swimming:
No. I know how to swim, but not properly. I end up looking like a dog when I try to swim, arms flailing everywhere, paddling with my hands...
12. Do you eat fries with a fork:
When I'm just eating fries, I eat them with my hands. When fries are a side dish and they are accompanied by a steak or something like that, I eat them with a fork. Weird.
13. Favourite moisturiser:
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel!
14. Do you want to get married later on in life:
Yes, I do! I want a career first though. I don't want to get into marriage with school debts or anything like that.
15. Do you get mad easily:
Not really, I'm a pretty relaxed person. I get annoyed easily but that usually lasts about 5 minutes until I get it out of my system via a smartass comment, then I'm back to normal. I've never been mean or bitchy to someone. Except maybe to my boyfriend, but hey, I think we've all done that at some point :P
16. Are you into ghost hunting:
What a random question! No, I'm not. Hahaha, imagine I said YES! "Ghost hunting has been in the family for years, I have 5 ghost friends..." etc., etc... OK I am rambling, it's a good thing this quiz is ending soon.
17. Any phobias -
I'm afraid of dark forests. I think a lot of people are. Even driving by a dark forest freaks me out. Good things can never come out of walking through a dark forest.
18. Do you bite your nails:
No I don't, I have a far worse habit - I chip my own nailpolish off and I don't stop until the whole nail is cleanly chipped off. Once one starts, it doesn't end!
19. Have you ever had a near death experience:
Apparently when I was brought back from the hospital as a newborn baby, my dad left me on the couch and then forgot about me, and put a giant pile of pillows and bed sheets on top of the couch where I was laying. I was under there for about 30 minutes before anyone realized. I was OK, I must have had some gap for air to come through...
20. Do you drink coffee -
No. I like coffee-derived things such as Espresso or Cappuccinos, but not plain coffee.
That was fun! I hope you enjoyed reading these random facts, and I'd love to see you all fill these out. It's a good set of random questions.
I just wanted to take a minute and write a thank you note to all of the wonderful readers of this blog. You have no idea how happy it makes me to read all your nice comments. I love reading your blogs as well and watching your YouTube channels. The beauty community online is such an interesting and great phenomenon, and it's great to be a part of it all.
It's been a while since I've done one of these - I haven't been too camera happy over the past few days. It's actually quite funny because I was pretty much wearing the exact same colours in the other Face/Outfit post I did. I do wear other things, I swear :)
Without further ado, here we go:
Makeup was done prior to hair fixing (excuse the frizz party going on in my hair):
I inevitably always raise my eyebrow when I photograph myself...
Face & Lips:
Dior Nude (*hallelujah* I love this)
MAC MSF Natural in Medium Dark
Benefit Hoola bronzer
MAC Fun & Games blush layerd & layered with 109 brush
MAC Popster tinted lip conditioner & GOSH Darling lipstick on top
MAC Baby Sparks Dazzleglass in center of lips
GOSH Bananas eyeliner, Benefit High Beam, (the rest all by MAC) Constructivist paintpot, All That Glitters, Sketch, Reflects Antique Gold, Blacktrack fluidline
YSL Faux Cils & L'oreal Voluminous carbon black mascara
Now, as for the outfit, the occasion was "casual", a friend's birthday party at his house. Cake, loud music and lots of laughter was shared by all. I spent most of the evening eating sour gummy worm candy for some reason. I guess I got excited considering I haven't eaten those since 8th grade.
I wore my new Juicy Couture shiny leggings. These are a bit looser around the leg than my American Apparel ones are are thus a lot less "second skin" and a lore more like pants.
The shirt is a medium gray burnout Tee by Alternative Apparel, belt is a random sash tie belt that I snatched from an old Guess dress. Shoes are yellow patent by Aldo, and bracelet was a gift from Germany :)
I also wore my new Chloe perfume which I've been savouring ever since I got it. Finally!
The hair was a loose messy low ponytail and some added volume courtesy of Aveda Pure Abundance hair potion (product very similar to the Clynol powder punch that a lot of the UK beauty bloggers tried out). I am planning on doing a hair product post soon. I don't use too many products, but most of the ones I use are by Aveda!
Hope everyone's weekends are sunny and great - until next time.
Remember a few posts back I kept meddling with the idea of getting an awesome new purse?
It's by Alexander Wang and it's part of his new fall 2009 collection. The bag is not out yet, should come out at the end of summer, but I suppose I should plan ahead on getting it so I can start saving (if I'm even lucky enough to snatch a piece, it used to be available for pre-order on a couple of sites and already sold out).
I've never splurged on a purse before since I'm more of a shoe person. I have a couple of Michael Kors and Coach clutches (all plain leather - I don't like signature logo bags at all), but other than that I really never cared to blow all my money on things like the Louis Vuitton speedy or a canvas Gucci bag. Everyone has those. The designer purses I usually like are usually way beyond my reach (*cough* YSL Muse *cough* Chanel Medallion tote *cough*). Now, finally a "reasonable" (and by reasonable I mean under $1000) option came to my attention, the Alexander Wang Coco:
Now, Mary Kate may look like a homeless man in that picture, but just look at how awesome the purse is. Studs and back leather = anything I could ever ask for in a bag.
Is it dumb of me to lust over this purse that may be completely irrelevant in a couple of years? Or does it have the potential to pass the test of time?
It will retail for about $890. Should I or shouldn't I? I need some advice from the lovely ladies out there. I know that purses are a matter of personal taste - but let me assure you - this is totally my style and a half. I'm a black & white, skinny jeans, blazer and asymmetrical loose top kind of girl.
Buying this would obviously hinder me from saving for a "premier" designer bag. Should I give in and get this? Or I shut up and save for something like a Balenciaga Work?
As most of you already know, MAC's summer friends & family sale is upon us (offer code SUMO, valid in USA & Canada only, as far as I know, for 25% off your entire order until June 18th).
I still remember the damage of the friends and family sale they had this winter - I had 3 packages shipped within a week, yikes. So, this time I decided to take it easy.
My shopping cart was fluctuating throughout the day, I originally wanted to buy more eyeshadows and another 15 pan palette, as well as the 134, 109 and 129 brushes, along with some skincare products.
The total of all the things I wanted literally made me cringe and I closed the window of my internet browser in shame. I really don't need all this stuff. I have a ton of eyeshadows I barely use, I'm happy with my current blush brush so why the need for the 129, and my skincare routine is just fine.
Also, I got a new bronzer brush a few days ago from Shopper's Drug Mart and I really love it. It's by a brand named Quo, which had a 40% off brush sale last week. I ended up paying $14 for a super soft brush that has a very similar shape to MAC's 134. $14 versus $62 (Canadian Dollars)? I think Quo wins.
So after much deliberation, I opted for only 3 things from this sale - here is a snapshot of my cart:
I skipped Grand Duos this year for some reason, and sometimes I wish my Benefit Hoola bronzer wasn't as matte as it is, so Earth to Earth seemed like it would be a cool thing to brush on the cheekbones after bronzer for a bit of a glow.
There really is no explanation as to why I wanted to get the infamous 109... I wanted to see what the fuss is all about, although I'm not looking forward to the shedding.
As for the strobe cream, I had it a while ago and used it all, and I really liked the effect of it but I never repurchased because I thought it was expensive for what it provided. This seemed like an opportune moment to enjoy it again!
So this is my Friends and Family order experience. I'm rather pleased with not going crazy and ordering a slew of things that I don't need. I'm traveling to Europe next month so I'd rather put my money towards that trip :)
Before I head out to watch the movie "UP" in 3D with my friend (Disney Pixar always makes me happy), I wanted to just do a quick post about two items I received in the mail today - two nail care items. Hoestly, I don't know what took me so long. Here they are:
Nail Tek Foundation II and Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat
YAY! I couldn't be happier. The ridges in my nails are now filled and the shiny fast-drying topcoat is looking marvelous. Just wanted to give these two items a big thumbs up.
Can you tell that I've had the day off work? This is my second post of the day, and I am excited about it!
- glycolic acid peels. After about a two month break, I decided to start another regimen of these to get rid of the crappy skin that's been developing in the time I've slacked off. After only one peel, my breakouts have reduced dramatically and my skin is on the right path once again.
- I think I found the purse I want to dedicate my summer savings to. I think. It comes out in July, I will post details about it later, once I decide for sure :)
- a good family friend from Germany is coming over to visit in a couple of weeks, and she's staying for a month! I love her, and I am so excited.
- going to Toronto for a fun-filled trip with my boyfriend and about 10 of our friends.
- Dior Nude mixed with Chanel Pro Lumiere. They're meant to be on my face!
- MAC Mercenary nailpolish. It's hot.
- a really boring assignment on environmental geology that I have to finish this week
- going to a wedding on saturday and I am on the fence about what to wear
- it's June and I still have to wear cardigans and jackets. Get hot, already! This year has been full of wacky weather.
Mr A. Wang has been the designer that's been stealing the scene over the past couple of seasons, and I have to admit, I venture online and stare hopelessly at his collection more than I should.
I'm not crazy about everything, since there have been some things in there that make me cringe for example the terrible bubble hem (*shudder*) silk skirt below, followed by an ugly sweatshirt dress that costs around $200 (and that's the sale price)...
??????????????? :( :( :( :( :(
So as you can see, sometimes when he hits, he misses. But other times, it's absolutely wonderful and expensive, sadly. Behold this amazing dress he released recently, I saw it on shopbop.com last night but I guess it's sold out because it's not on there anymore, so I'll have to resort to paparazzi pictures of celebrities I don't like:
I LOVE this dress! I apologize for the ridiculous Paris Hilton photo, though (*shudders*).
I'm also a fan of the Alexander Wang Brenda bag, which I thought looked weird before, but now it's grown on me quite a lot. The chain strap is so cool - and here is a great blogger, Vanessa (The Haute Pursuit) sporting this interesting rock & roll bag:
This concludes today's blog post. I hope everyone's having a great week!
Alright, so... I did it. I went back against my word not to get anything from the Style Warriors collection. But as time went on, I started really thinking about how cool Mercenary would look on my nails this summer (yes, it's rather sad that I spend time actually thinking about these things - but what else am I supposed to do at work when it's completely deserted at 8 in the morning ;)
So today, I took the plunge and I went in to buy Mercenary. As I was browsing around and turning my hands into frosty shades of gold with the help of the Solar Bits, I spotted the lustre drops and remembered Lisa (Lisasz09) talking about the Bronze Hero luster drops and how she used it to darken her foundation. Since I just bought (and fell in love) with Dior Nude and it matches my untanned face, I swatched Bronze Hero lustre drop on my hand and it looked SO good, I had to have it! I was envisioning it with Dior Nude having a happy union together once I'm nice and tanned, haha. Initially I was turned off by these luster drop things because I thought they'd feel heavy and be too shimmery. Not at all. Bronze Hero offered a great warm glow, and it dried quickly and left no greasy residue on my hand.
Sandra = a happy camper. Except I don't really camp.
PS: I also tried on a ridiculous bright pink full skirt at H&M today. I liked it, but it was way out of my comfort zone... I wish it was black or navy blue :(
