Hot Summer, Cool Shades

I have been slacking, I know :(

Here's the story of what has been keeping me out of tune with my passion for cosmetics, skincare & all things fashion: another passion of mine, to travel!
I am going to England and Spain at the end of August with a couple of friends and I have been working like a mad woman during the day (I have a part-time job in retail while I'm still in school, so you can imagine how many hours I need to spend at that place in order to afford my trip haha).
When I get home, I've been scouting the Internet for tips and tricks, places to stay, places to see, things to do, etc. while I'm going to be traveling.

Any fun tips for things to do in London and Barcelona, please send 'em my way :)

Now excuses aside, I did manage to get out of the house a couple of times last week and I've been obsessed with cool pinks. I'm taking a break from the corals and golds that seem to take over every summer...

Let's begin with the eyes:

I started with my saviour eye product in the summer - Urban Decay Primer Potion.
I despise the packaging... it's ugly and inconvenient, but sadly it's the only thing that works for my oily eyelids.
I have been hearing good things about the NARS eyeshadow primer as well...
have any of you tried that one? How does it compare to the UDPP? I'm dying to make the switch!

Next I used NARS Mykonos Cream Eyeshadow and smudged it close to the lashline,
followed by MAC Style Snob Eyeshadow all over the lid.
In the inner corner I used the white eyeshadow in my Helena Rubinstein "Night Flicker" Eyeshadow Duo (very similar to Vellum by MAC, a white with blue-purple duochrome)
Finished things off with NARS Demon Lover eyeshadow in the outer corner and gently through the crease.

Eyeliner: MAC Blacktrack Fluidline
Mascara: Fresh Supernova

Keeping up with the cool colour theme...

Bronzer: Benefit Hoola
Blush: MAC Well Dressed and a touch of MAC Redhead MSF
Lipstick and Lipgloss: Chanel Rose Comete & MAC Underage

For foundation, I opted for my favourite "going out" combination as of late:
two pumps of YSL Teint Resist in #5 (which is pretty much HG status... I'm in love), and one pump of MUFE HD in #123.
They balance each other quite well, Teint Resist gives it great lasting power and the MUFE gives the colour more depth since when I am tanned, Teint Resist foundation is too light for me. I also used a touch of Laura Mercier Translucent Powder to set.

I am going to close things off with a random question for you all - have any of you tried La Mer Tinted Moisturizer? I have a random desire to try it out.
I've been really into mixing my YSL Teint Resist foundation with my moisturizers (either Cetaphil or my Clinique Moisturizing Gel), and while I always thought I'd never be the tinted moisturizer type, my skin has been in great shape lately and I'm thinking I may pull it off!

So - tinted moisturizers... La Mer... yay or nay? Feel free to give me your recommendations,
and until next time (which hopefully will be sooner rather than later *blushes*)

- Sandra

  1. loving all the pink! especially on your eyes!

i've been wanting well dressed for a while but i have quite yellow skin and every time i swatch it, it just looks too cool. it looks gorgeous on you though and you aren't exactly pale so maybe i'll try it out again.

  2. Your eye make up looks gorgeous. I have never tried La Mer tinted Moisturizer mainly because I have oily skin but I do love the Laura Mercier oil free one.

  3. Both cities are fab and I'm sure you'll have an amazing time!! In Barcelona I would say try to get in a football game? I have no idea if they are playing this time of year but I was in their stadium for a concert and it made me wish we'd gone to see a game too! As for London, just get ready to spend money, I basically went broke shopping there!!

  4. You must go to the Tate Museum of Modern Art while in London. They have the most beautiful art. London is truly magical!

  5. So pretty! Love the eyeshadow and your skin looks flawless! I wish I had skin like that!

  6. La mer is definantly a yay, but it is quite sheer, so don't expect it to be more that a tint with moisturizing and sunscreen property in it :) good luck!

  7. Hey girly, I've been wearing tinted moisturizer as of late too! My skin has been good as well, and I'm loving the fresh look of tinted moisturizer. I use the Jemma Kidd Mineral Skin Nourishing Tint SPF 20. I love it, because it is great for my oily skin - not too slick, and not drying. Great for summer. And I love that's it's mineral based... I haven't broken out once from it! One word of advice though - it seems to run dark, as the shade "porcelain" is my tanned skin color. I mean, I'm white, but I'm not THAT white. LOL.

  8. Great look!
I live in London and for me this is a very special city! You have everything you want and everyone is so different. I would probably say avoid the tube (underground) as much as you can and walk walk would be surprised how close things are from each other! Or take buses instead so that you can see the city while travelling. There are amazing free museums as well but contributions at the entrance are well received to keep them as free admission. Shopping? can go mad...too much to choose from. Also be ready to see a few nutters loose in the street...all part of London! XXX

  9. This look is gorgeous. Do you recommend Nars eyeshadows?

The "Parc Guell" in Barcelona is fantastic!

    Kisses from Switzerland!

  10. London: Portobello Market, Covent Garden, Spitalfields Market, Brick Lane, Shoreditch, South Bank (just south of the river Thames), the list could go on... but those are the most charming places :)

Barcelona: just walk around and explore! the whole city is basically walkable, and you'll find great areas along the way. xx

  11. Love the look! I may have to steal it one day :o

    High Heels & Lipgloss

  12. I have a sample tube of the NARS eye base and I like it, but I don't necessarily love it. The only thing I found different was that it is very light weight and has kind of a velvety texture. I'm still deciding if I want a full-sized one :)

  13. love love love your cheek sandra :) You always have radiant and glowing cheeks :) Have fun on your trip

  14. lovely cool tones on tanned skin!

  15. i really want to try ysl teint resist- you make it look amazing! have fun in england and get yourself to topshop asap hee hee x

  16. Love this look!
I live in Barcelona so any question you may have don't hesitate to ask me. As a tip if you come at the end of August I am sure you would enjoy the big celebration in "Gracia" district. For something more relaxing you'd better have some cocktails in the small beach clubs.
In terms of make up, Barcelona is quite hot and humid so don't forget sunscreen and blot/loose powder ;-)

As a football fan (as me) you are lucky because at the end of August F.C Barcelona is playing in the city a couple of tournaments, the most interesting one against Milan.

    Hope you enjoy!

  17. This is a beautiful look for you! Lovin' the eyeshadow.

  18. Too Faced shadow insurance works REALLY well on my oily lids. Seriously, the color stays on all night and into the next day. The packagining is 100000x better than UDPP, too. My advice is to shake up the tube before you use it, as it can come out a little runny if you don't.

  19. I gave you the "I Heart Your Blog Award", if you want, give a look at the post. It's not a big deal it's just a small prize to pass on to other blogs that you like...
Please don't feel forced to link my blog or to post this comment, if you don't want to just don't!

  20. Have fun on your trip :) I am jealous. I would go stalk footballers in Barcelona haha

  21. Gorgeous look! I love that Nars eyeshadow!

  24. this look is beautiful!
I'd love to travel more in the future, so envious of your trip later this month!

  27. Hey there, the pinks really suit you!!

I use the Nars eye primer most days and it really is fabulous. I purchased it initially in May to wear at a wedding i was going to in Miami, and as I am from England, I knew my usual makeup routine wouldn't take the heat. It worked wonders and my eyeshadow stayed where it should.

I think you should get it!!

    Please check out my blog:

  28. Hey Sandra! I love your blog! Your skin looks amazing in these pics and I was wondering if you could do a post or a youtube video on your recent skincare routine?! Keep up the good work!

  29. oh beautiful look! love that blush!! xo

  30. You have to go to Harrods, Selfridges and Liberty!

  31. I'd advise doing a tour of the olympic stadium in Barcelona, it's an amazing thing to see and the tour guide I had when there was full of quirky stories and jokes.

If you aren't from a city with a Madame Tussauds then the London one is fab!

  32. This is such a nice make up. I loved it:)

you will have lots of fun on your trips :) im from london and if you like anywhere a bit different, arty and quirky google a tea room called 'sketch' it has gorgeous mismatching furniture and tea cups, art on the walls and tasty little cakes. last time i went the womens toilets had lots of little mirrored tiles and looked like a disco ball, its amazing !!
