Eyeliner of the moment...

I always go through phases with my eyeliner, sometimes I prefer the smudgy black look of a kohl pencil, other times I opt for the sharp and intense lines of a liquid liner.

Something that merges both of those effects together and I've been using a lot lately is my Shu Uemura painting liner (in black - of course!).

This brand is pretty hard to come by in North America nowadays (online only for US residents), and you can still find some Shu Uemura counters at Holt Renfrew in Canada, which is where I found mine.

It doesn't glide as smoothly as MAC Fluidline, but the pigment is much more intense and the formula is more of a cream base than a gel.
It doesn't dry out at all, and I've read reviews that it lasts well over a year without any drying out... which is something that I can't say about MAC Fluidline, that goes chunky after 8 months or so.

The pigment stays put and remains intense throughout the day. This is what it looked like on my eye after about 10 hours of wear:

As you can see, the MAC Paint Pot (in Rubenesque) that I had on is starting to crease,
while the eyeliner remains intact. No powder needed to set it!

What type of black eyeliner do you prefer?

  2. i want that rubenesque just because it's suuuuch a pretty color.

i like cream/gel liners because they are so much easier for me to apply with an angled brush. this one would be a great thing to snag, but you say it's hard to find :( oh well

i use the maybelline gel studio line right now

  3. I still prefer MAC for the price and it does what I need it to. But I have noticed that it's been fading after a long day's wear. I may try the Shu Uemura one but my Holt is such a fail I doubt they even have it!

  4. I love the Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner, the MUA told me to make sure that I closed the container tightly and don't leave it open too long and that really helped to keep it from drying out. I hate the MAC eyeliner. I want to try out Clinique's and Estee Lauders gel eyeliners too. And now I want to try the Shu eyeliner. I think we can order online, they have a promotion of 15% off orders of $50 or more.

  5. I've been through them all! clinique is not that good, its a bit too thin in texture so it sort of disappears when you try to go over it- kind of like when you write with a boardmarker on a white board if that makes sense. The maybeline one is really good, especially for a drugstore product but the best has got to be bobbi brown! x

  10. Ooh looks great! I love the clinique gel eyeliner. It is a very liquid cream and goes on with the lightest touch of the brush. It will last you all the way until the end without drying out.

  12. Looks great! Love that eye shadow too. I would have to say Bobbi Brown's black gel eye liner! amazing. Also I agree with what 'D..' said that you do have to close the lid after use so it doesn't dry up but it lasts so long. When its on it does not smudge at all! I also just buy a cheap drugstore brush to apply it with and it seems to work just fine than buying their own brush.
