Frustrating product of the month...

If there was one product I am completely annoyed and on the fence by, it's this one.
I don't think I blogged about it before despite owning it for about a year.
This month it has "re-surfaced" and I've been trying desperately to use it up...

In theory, it's a wonderful product - designed to minimize the look of pores and to refine skin texture when applied, while combatting oil and shine.

A light gel texture, you only need to spread a small amount over areas of interest (for me, this is the T-zone). It instantly dries and leaves the area matte and smooth and minimizes the appearance of pores...
however, once you apply foundation over top, all hell breaks loose.
It's impossible for me to blend any foundation I've tried on top of this product... I've owned this product for over a year and have tried it with every foundation I've owned since... whether it be a light textured tinted moisturizer, mineral powders, a matte finish or a dewy finish foundation. I just can't get it to blend over the areas where I've applied this.
It instantly disintegrates and turns all strange and sticky, and it's been doing it ever since I purchased it.

I've tried applying it on top of foundation and it was a mess as well...

In conclusion, this product frustrates me because it does work when applied alone not in conjunction with any makeup, which unfortunately just doesn't work for me.

If you are an oily skinned girl that hardly wears any face makeup, definitely give this a go. I've been using this on "no makeup" days around the house or lounging by the pool or the beach.

The search for the magical mattifying pore minimizer continues!

  1. What's the point of it if you can't wear it with foundation? Will make sure not to get it.

A lot of people seem to swear by Benefit's Porefessional. Haven't tried that either. Maybe worth a shot, but that only got 3.8 on makeupalley.

  2. I'm sorry it doesn't work for you. I always ask for samples of this, as I really like it. What I do is I dab it over my foundation, and it looks very nice. I hope you find something that works better for you! xx

  3. I also own and use this primer and I must say I never encountered the problem you are describing. Maybe you just don't wait long enough for the product to sink in, you gotta give at least 5 minutes before applying foundation. Or maybe it just doesn't suit your skin, after all we're all different :)

  4. I've had it as well for about a year and have the same exact problems with it, plus I think it broke me out. I had high hopes for it too cause it sounds amazing but makeup just doesn't apply well over it and I didn't notice any difference with my pores. :( So now it just sits in my drawer collecting dust, lol.

  7. Hi, so I've head of orker people having This problem, and solving it by "tapping" instead of rubbing the product in :)

  8. Hi! I know a few people who own the product and they say you absolutely have to wait at least 15 mins before you put anything else on your face otherwise it'll get really cakey and gross. I hope that helps =)

  9. How long do you let the product set on your skin before you try and apply a foundation on top? Of course I suppose this isn't the type of product that "soaks into" the skin, more just lays on top.
Also is it a silicon-based product? It may not work with water-based foundations if it is.. but you used it with an array of foundations so no doubt one of them should have worked!!
Your absolutely right.. a frustrating product!! haha I've never heard of this issue before :/
Update us if you figure it out!

  10. Yikes! That's so frustrating! It sounds great but if you can't blend your foundation over top of it, then there's no real use for the product! I've heard good things about Clinique's pore minimizer-type product if you're in the market still

  11. You should try Benefit's POREfessional, it's ten times better! :) x

  12. I completely agree w/ everyone who suggests benefit porefessional. Just be sure to pat it on, not rub!

  13. Have you tried Clarins Beauty Flash Balm? I love it!! I got large sized pores, but after using it for a couple of days, they are gone or minimal. No other product does this to me.

  19. I've tried the POREfessional by benefit and I have to tell you its not that great, it has that super siliconey feeling and although it does minimise pores, to me it doesn't mattify my oily t zone. If you can get your hand on Vichy try their normaderm hydrating care, I purchased it about a month ago and have been wearing it (in dubai, almost 40 degrees here) and its helped ALOT. hope thats helped. x :)

  20. I think I have very, VERY similar skin to you and I use Dr Brandt's Pores No More - it has really helped and I see a difference when I use it and when I get lazy and don't bother.

  21. It actually works for me but the trick is to apply this about 5-10 mins prior to foundation. If it doesn't set, it'll definitely mess up your foundation. But once it does set, it works wonders for covering pores =). I hope you'll try this and make it work for you =D.

  22. I gotta say I didn't like this very much either...same problem. Benefit Porefessional is ok but I really liked Stila's One Step Correct Triple Swirl Helix primer.
