Reformulation Frustration?

Pardon the cheesy title but I couldn't help myself.

This post is about - you guess it - a product that was an ultimate favourite for me (an item many of us in the beauty community refer to as the "Holy Grail") for under-eye concealing and it was the Bobbi Brown Corrector in the colour Light Peach.

This is the third consecutive year in which I have been using this product and it's a daily staple for me. Most of the time I just use it by itself and find that it suffices in coverage and lasting power.

Well... all of that was nice and dandy until a new formula came along. I'm not sure when in the past year they reformulated their concealers and correctors since I had purchased and used 2 back-ups from last year in the old formula, but as of last week I opened a new fresh pot that I bought last month and... *tears streaming from face* I don't like it anymore!

Here's my problem:

They made it a lot creamier. See the picture above? My old ones never used to do that. This melts on contact almost. It now slides off my face after a mere hour or two, even when I set it with Benefit Powderflage powder. I hardly ever had to powder it before. Now, without powder, it makes my under-eyes look greasy (and it's not a good look). It's also more pigmented which ends up looking like a cakey mess on me once it slid down half a centimetre and settles into every crevice.

I am so disappointed. Now, I understand that the new creamier and more pigmented formula might now accommodate more users with drier under-eye areas, but it's sad to see a product that used to work so well for me not work anymore.

I guess the hunt is on for a new under eye colour corrector and concealer! Feel free to share your favourites with me below. I'm also curious to see if anyone else has had a similar experience with the Bobbi Brown concealer/corrector range.

  2. I thought I had the new formula but it looks different from yours! Mine's a lot thicker and I don't like it for my dry undereye :/

I've heard that the Illamasqua undereye concealer is good :)

  3. Oh, that is sooo frustrating! I feel for you. I own the BB corrector in Light Bisque; it's not HG for me but I don't know what I would do if my HG products went away. I have been really happy with my IT Cosmetics Bye Bye undereye concealer set with Powderflage - it lasts on me all day. And I also love TheBalm's concealer (I'm totally spacing on the name though right now). It's great for undereyes as well and not creasing like crazy.

  4. @Patricia I still sau give it a try, just because it no longer works for me doesn't mean that it might not work for you!! :)

  5. oh no! I hate it when this happens! Lately I've been using a lush color supplement under my eyes and it's been doing the trick.

  6. The concealer I keep going back to: Giorgio Armani.

It's in liquid form but highly pigmented and does not settle into lines. Only a thin layer is needed to conceal darkness under the eyes. Try it!

  7. Benefit erase paste is a good one a cheaper option which I absolutely love for under my eyes is Sleek's Luminaire concealer, it's only around £6 and it's great! x

  8. I still love my corrector, I think I will always repurchase, I find that less is definitely more with it, but I can still put a concealer over the top and set it with a light pink matte powder and it doesnt look cakey. But I have quite dry under eyes, so maybe thats why I like it so much!

  9. Yep I can't use the 'creamier' formula anymore either, I stopped using it :( and I used to love it, GRRRRR! They did that with benefit boing too, and I stopped using that, now I use mac moisturecover with ysl touche eclat. Anyway... X

  10. I've never tried this concealer but why fix something that's not broken? I love Amazing Cosmetics concealer. It's one of the best concealers I've tried and that tube lasts a long time.

  11. That is so awful. I can't imagine something that was such a staple suddenly becoming, in essence, a useless product. On a more positive note, the By Terry VIP Touch-Expert Advanced under-eye concealer is a God send.

  15. oh no!
i've only ever tried the new formula and i like it but i definitely have to set it or else it looks wet underneath my eyes! i agree it doesn't last all day, so im curious to see if you can find a better one!
    fingers crossed!

  16. Ah it is so annoying when a company changes your favourite products! I still have about half of my current BB corrector but will using it more sparingly now! xx

  17. I use the MAC Pro Longwear concealor and its great. It lasts and it's comfortable and the consistency of the formula is great, not cakey, not too creamy.

  18. I am using the old formula and it`s too dry for me. Think I prefer the new one for more easier application.

  19. I don't know if you remember but I had commented on a video about the Armani Color Corrector. I think it's time you checked it out! Def pricey but oh so worth it :) I too used to love the Bobbi Brown Corrector, but Armani is my love now.

  20. please please please check out giorgio armani color corrector in #1 (pink) and concealor. I went on an under eye concealor hunt a few months ago and these are HG material. I would cry if they were discontinued because they correct the color and diffuse the light so it minimizes lines in the lightest of formulas!

  21. Ok, it might sound weird - but my favorite concealer is by SKINFOOD and I get it off ebay from Korea I think... it's like 12 bucks and takes like 2 weeks to get to the states - it only comes in 2 shades - a light and medium shade --- but dear god - it's my favorite -- I would think you are the darker shade - I would seriously recommend it - you get so much product - for so cheap and it's creamy but not too creamy.

  22. What about the Laura Mercier concealer duo? it's good value for money, very pigmented and it comes in two shades, great to mix or to use for different seasons (summer AND winter).
Hope u find a better alternative!

  23. The Chanel Eclat lumiere pen is great for color correcting and highlighting under the eyes. It doesn't settle in fine lines like thicker consistencies do.

  24. Check out the concealer palette from victoria secret..awesome orange concealer..not creamy at all.

  25. Oh my! judging by that pic, this looks a lot different!! that sucks. I love light bisque.

  26. For a similar product, I love the Skinfood Salmon Concealer. I also love the Ellis Faas concealer (for liquid) and the Cle de Peau Concealer (for cream). The YSL touché éclat is also great for brightening ! hahaaa. I've also heard great things about the Giorgio Armani corrector / retouch concealer and Make Up Forever Full Cover.

hahaaa. I feel like I use so much concealer, though, this is mostly because I don't use foundation and have also been foregoing tinted moisturiser lately. Just a bit of concealing helps to make you look awake and get a not overly made up but good skin look. (:

  27. I bought my very first pot last year and it was horrible. It settled into lines and was overall visible. I returned it and didn't understand what the hype was about. Now I know!

  28. Have you tried the MUFE Concealer palettes? I may try this now that's creamier. I know how it is to no longer be able to use a product you love.

  29. I recently purchased the Sonia Kaschuk Secret Agenda concealer palette after seeing Tiffany from Will Work for Makeup rave about it so much. And I really like it! Might be worth a look, it's only about $10 at Target.

  30. You MUST try the GA Master Pink corrector #1 and then the High precision retouch concealer #2 for the triangle part of your eye. This is HOLY GRAIL! BB used to be my hg as well. But you will love it!

  31. I use the laura mercier secret concealer and I love it. It also have colour correcting properties so it's really good for undereyes.

  32. Giorgio Armani Master Corrector is everything I wanted Bobbi Brown corrector to be! I am oily under my eyes and this stays put and feels like skin! I will never be with out it!!

  33. Double Wear by Estee Lauder is amazing, does not budge all day and it's really pigmented. I had the same problem with my bobbi brown corrector & concealer, so happy
when i found double wear (and trust me, I've tried my fair share of concealers)!I think it
only comes in three shades though, but give it a try!

  34. you know a concealer that no one talks about? Lorac's double ended concealer. I think I'm the only one in the planet who likes it. It's the usual highlighter/concealer combo with a roller ball thing on top (marketing ploy). The highlighter is okay but I love the concealer. I tried the bobbi brown one but I like this one more. It's not sticky and it covers my dark circles. I think you'll like it!

  35. i saw that you got the GA Master Corrector. I wanna get it tooooo! Along with the High Precision Retouch :( however, those will set me back like $100 canadian, double ouch.

  36. Things finally make sense now. I bought this concealer in peach and absolutely hated it! My friend and I swapped some makeup and when I took her Bobbi Brown concealer in bisque it was amazing. I thought it was just bc it was a concealer and not the corrector, but now I know they changed the formula... huge mistake!

  37. OMG I understand your frustration so much, I must be the girl with the biggest dark eye circle in the world and I am constantly in search for THE best concealer, so I tought umm why not trying the famous Bobbi Brown Concealer, what a mistake, my wallet is so mad a me right now, I just gave it to one of my sister because she got little dark circle...it fade away, it does not last at all, also not very pigmented! I Think I will have to call Dora the explorer to help me in my search because I am desperate -.-' !

  38. you should try tarte's dark circle defense!

  39. Try Clinique Airbrush in Medium 02, it has a 'salmon' colour and I'm quite pale at the moment, and have always used YSl Touche Eclat in the past. Anyway the colour seems to warm up my dark circles and blends perfectly.

  40. Sandra, I'm new to your blog. I'm really liking it =) I've been reading some of your past post. I was wondering what kind of camera do you use? Do you have a special lense for all the close up pics you post of your make-up? I have a Canon Power Shot S3IS. I can't take clear close up pictures. Thanks

  41. Same thing happened to me! Everyone raved and raved, but it was so ridiculously creamy, it creased and moved no matter what the heck I did. I see you've moved on to the Armani corrector - I moved on to that as well and I'm in love!
