F/W 2011 Fragrance Wishlist

I treat myself to a new fragrance every fall/winter - last year I was enamoured by the sexy freshness of Tom Ford For Men, this year I have let my list get a bit too long...

I like a lot of different types of perfumes - I have favourites in the floral, musky and fresh/citrus families. I find perfume another way of expressing an emotion, a look, an idea.
Simply put, new fragrance makes me happy.

Here's my list of fragrances I'm obsessed with at the moment (obsessed being defined as... I stalk the bottles at each counter I see them displayed on, and spray without hesitation).

1. Elie Saab Le Parfum, aka orange blossom & jasmine goodness.

2. Thierry Mugler Alien
Another dose of jasmine goodness, with a touch of vanilla (amongst other things) at dry down. This is funny because I absolutely hated this scent when it first came out, and I hate the bottle too, but this summer I became in love with it after using my friend's on a night out. It smelled really really good on me, and that made me happy. Still hate the bottle though.

3. Tom Ford Violet Blonde
A decadent blent of iris and (again) jasmine sambac. What is happening to me? I used to be the anti-jasmine and now I can't get enough. It's a more subtle and feminine fragrance as opposed to Tom Ford's other offerings - if Black Orchid was a tight black leather body-con dress, Violet Blonde is a crisp ivory shift dress. Does that make any sense? It smells a bit powdery at first *and I hate powdery scents* but as it dries down it just becomes beautiful. Great lasting power as well. I just wish the bottle was more inventive. This looks almost identical to my Tom Ford For Men bottle.

Are you a perfume junkie/hoarder like me? Have you had any experience with either of the perfumes I mentioned above?
I hope to walk away with at least one of them this fall/winter, I'll be content in my little jasmine wonderland.

Also, while I'm on the subject, how do you store your perfumes? I currently have them on top of my dresser (away from direct sunlight but still in plain view) on a tray but I fear that it might turn some scents - my old bottle of Armani Code eau de parfum is looking suspicious.

Your opinion, as always, is very welcomed.

  1. I'm very very picky with perfumes as lots of them give me headaches, so I stick with what works for me. I always keep the bottles in their boxes and when I'm not using a particular perfume at all (it's a backup or it's not the season), I keep them in a drawer. They need to be stored away from light (dark place is better) and away fro m hear/humidity, bathrooms being the worse place.

  2. The Elie Saab perfume smells gorgeous!!!!!
I store my perfumes in my wardrobe. Of course I can't see them all the time, but that way I'm sure they won't turn bad. And my wardrobe smells nice too§

  3. I love the idea of having a time of the year that you always get a new fragrance! I have a pitifully small perfume collection simply because I don't really think to buy new ones and blow my money on other things instead.

  4. I am a total hoarder. Most times it's just for the bottle. For the past year I've wanted Black Orchid, but now that Violet Blonde has come out, I don't know which one I want (for a signature scent). Even though they are complete opposites, I have no idea how I like both of them.

  6. Alien is my signature scent along with Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle! I just love it and it gets my boyfriend weak at the knees:) I wanna get Elie Saab perfume as well and quite liked Violet Blonde. God, if you saw my wishlist! I was surprised to see just three on yours:) Tell us which one you get, Sandra!

  7. I love jasmine scents. I think maybe its because I'm half Egyptian and it reminds me of back home where people hang the flower everywhere. I'm obsessing after Jo Malone's Nectarine Blossom & Honey but I can never find it in ol' Ottawa. And I generally store my perfume in my drawers or in our spare bathroom which has no windows. I've had too many Nina Ricci perfumes turn on me and smell disgusting haha!

  12. I keep mine in a dresser drawer to preserve them. I has about 15 bottles so I want to preserve them as long as I can. The elie Saab smells really nice! I have a sample of it that I'm enjoying :)

  13. The Elie Saab bottle looks so chic. I store my perfumes in my wardrobe. Kind of sad that I can't display them but I'd rather preserve the scent. What do you do with empty perfume bottles? Do you keep them or throw them out?

  14. My favorite perfume is Alien. I have almost gone thru the whole bottle, which never happens. I love it so much, everytime I go into Macy's I ask for samples because they are easier to travel with, probably why I still have a little bit left in my bottle. I also love how it lasts so long, I have never had a perfume last so long, I can still smell it on my clothes when I go to do my laundry, even though I spray it on my skin. I get compliments every time I wear this, and I like how it changes scents on my skin. My favorite perfume hands down. Also it's refillable.

  17. I got a chance to test it when I was in Canada this Thierry Mugler Alien, it's amazing! Unfortunately I already own way too many perfumes like my pheromones for women.

  18. I've been obsessed with the Ellie Saab, and have scammed two sample bottles from Nordstrom. When I feel rich, I'll be buying it. Also I've been enjoying my sample of the Bobbi Brown anniversary perfume. I may also break down and purchase it eventually. In terms of perfume I've actually purchased lately, I'm loving the Cartier Basier Vole.
