Getting My Cake Face On

When I was in the middle of final exam pre/holiday stress, I could feel my face getting aggravated and I could feel clogged pores brewing. So I took a little break, walked my butt over to LUSH and their fresh face mask stand. I was about to reach for my trusty Cosmetic Warrior mask (which I mentioned in videos before, it smells like hummus, garlic, and dirt) but then I felt adventurous and I opted for a new one instead - Cupcake.

Cupcake looks and smells a lot more appealing than Cosmetic Warrior. They are both geared towards oily skin with imperfections. Cupcake smells and looks exactly like chocolate cupcake batter with a bit of a minty earthy kick due to the clay inside and some of the plant extracts.

Unfortunately though, for me, Cupcake fell short. It did leave my face feeling very soft and clean, but it also dried it out too much, and the smell lingers onto the skin but just in a sickly sweet way, even after I wash my face of it twice. It didn't really improve the condition of my skin other than making it feel extra "clean", which is something I can accomplish just as easily and with less mess with my Clarisonic.

In conclusion, I won't be repurchasing this. You can give it a try if you're feeling adventurous - I do know of people who saw great results from this. For me, though, Cosmetic Warrior is my warrior of choice. That one didn't make my skin feel dry, and it actually left the skin luminous and bright due to the antioxidant power of the garlic in it. It may not look or smell as fabulous but it's dear to my heart :)

Have you been trying out any face masks lately?
I'm also LOVING the Dior HydraLife Rehydrating mask that I got a month ago, so keep an eye out for a post on that as well.

I'm a big fan of masks so I wouldn't mind your recommendations either.

  3. I use face masks twice a week, avene make a great one for acne prone skin and it's an exfoliator too.

  4. Alpha-H Vitamin E clay mask is my absolute favourite. Once a week is enough to keep my pores minimised and my skin calm and oil-free (well, as oil-free as possible).

I also really like those little sachets from Montagne Jeunesse. The peel-off ones are great, so satisfying!

Out of interest, what cleanser/s do you use with your Clarisonic?

  5. I'm not too big on the Lush masks as none of them has actually done something for me and my dry skin. I did however splurge on the Sisley Black Rose Cream mask (with a coupon and a promotion discount) though. This is my new HG mask. It hydrates my skin and adds a luminosity that I have not had in a mask before. You only need a little bit and I use it overnight. It is worth the splurge for special occasions. For daily or even biweekly use, it is too expensive IMO.

  6. @ Tine - that mask sounds amazing, I keep drooling from afar over Sisley products

@ Product Pixie - I use either Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish, La Roche Posay Effaclar or Cetaphil cleanser with my clarisonic

  7. Wow thanks for that post! All I've heard was good stuff about Cupcake and I haven't heard about Cosmetic Warrior ever! I was gonna buy Cupcake pretty soon but I think i might opt for Cosmetic Warrior now! Cheers xx

  8. Ah glad to know I'm not the only one disappointed with the Cupcake mask too. I could feel the mask drying and my face drying out too... On the other hand, Lush's Oatifix doesn't dry out my face and actually left it feeling really moisturised and soft :)

I'm gonna check Cosmetic Warrior out!

  9. I tried Cupcake because everyone seems to love it but it broke me out pretty bad! I got big spots on pretty much each section of my face.... I'm kind of hesitant to try their other fresh face masks but I might get the Cosmetic Warrior one once I have 5 empty pots to turn in for a free mask :) I honestly haven't found an HG face mask but the My Beauty Diary (taiwanese brand) sheet mask in Bird's Nest is my favorite. It leave my skin super smooth, moisturized, and brighter the next morning after I use it at night!

  11. Bliss makes a great mask that unclogs pores and gives your face a glow, I love it! Its called fifteen minute steep clean. I think its $55 and Sephora and Ulta both carry it.

  12. Hmmmm as yummy as it looks, I'm not sure this one would work for me as I already have dry skin and I have found that nothing works better than honey for me!

  14. I have tried their Cupcake and Catastrophe Cosmetics (blueberry one).. Neither work too well for me.. I have a review for cupcake below:

I have pretty dry/normal skin so I just exfoliate regularly, instead of doing cleasing mask. But there's a Clinique derma white mask and pore minimizing one that I like. ;)

  15. Try any Sisley mask, they are pricey but they are soooooo good, it's killing me. Maybe you can ask for a sample? They are very generous with that!

  16. I've recently made my first Lush order. I really wanted to try one of their fresh masks after yours and other bloggers recommendations and I went for the Ayesha mask. Totally disgusting looking but really effective. It left my skin very fresh, firm and rested, even my fine lines were less aparent. I really recommend it for your slightly older followers. Hugs from Spain!

  18. I love Kiehl's -> Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Masque. Keeps the oil away, pores seem to shrink up and makes my skin feel super soft too!

  19. Agreed. Its a nice relaxing treat but it does NOTHING extra for my skin!

  20. I find that a thin layer of natural yogurt left on the skin for about 15 minutes works really well as a simple mask. Sandra, would you reccomend the Clarisonic?

  21. hey sandra, im a complete cetaphil lover like you, but for exfoliation i always have a tub of angels on bare skin cleanser from lush around.. sometimes, i make the cleanser into a paste with warm water and then put it all over my face as usual but instead of washing it off i let it sit on my skin. it hardens, and then i wipe it off in circular motions with a damp cloth. it is such a nice mask!! it literally made my skin GLOW. if you ever try that cleanser than give it a try! i love it

  22. oh and also as for actual masks, lol, i have a ton from Aveda- they have lovely masks. my favorite is the tourmaline charged mask- its amazing. they also have a deep pore mask i use on my t zone and it works well but sometimes a little tooo well, if i leave it on for too long it can sting and dry my skin out but for the most part they are good. xoxo

  23. I have been wanting to try out this mask for a while because of everyone raving about it. I'll have to get motivated to go down to my LUSH store and see if it works for me.
