February Wishlist Roundup

The last day of February has arrived! I really enjoyed doing one post a day the entire month and while I can't promise the same thing for March, I am still very inspired and have quite a few upcoming posts in mind that I hope are useful and enjoyable.

I figured a good way to end this month's posts would be to do a little "round-up" of all the small wish list posts I sneaked in this month and cross out things that I have purchased or things that I have changed my mind on after seeing things in person/getting bad feedback on from readers.

1. La Roche Posay Effaclar K Lotion - haven't bought this yet, still working on another lotion I want to use up first!
2. Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover - bought it, and really like it
3. Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel Bronzer - once NARS Laguna is finished, this is for sure getting purchased
4. Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua
5. Estee Lauder Double Wear can't get a proper colour match for the life of me, maybe will try again in the summer
6. Clarins Instant Lip Perfector - definitely buying this, so many of you rave about it! Just waiting to use my Shoppers Optimum points for it ;)
7. Tom Ford Private Blend Lipstick - I bought it this weekend
8. Chanel Loose Powder - waiting to use up my Laura Mercier loose powder before I buy
9. Chanel Mystic Eyes Quad - tested it out in the store and while the colours are beautiful, it's nothing I don't own already, and pigmentation was just OK. Not worth the price.
10. MAC blush - got so many great Peach recommendations and the majority went to the colour Melba so that will be my next MAC blush.
11. Dior Matte Bronzer or Guerlain Teracotta 4 Seasons - not sure which one of the two I will get but when I use up my Benefit Hoola, I will let you know which one I decide on
12. Chanel Aragonite Gloss - it's beautiful, but I honestly don't think I'd use it that much

and I have one thing to add to my list:
13. Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel Illuminating Fluid
Tried this out over the weekend after my good friend kept raving about it and I fell in love! Perfect highlighter for my skin tone, blends in effortlessly and doesn't highlight any large pores. The colour isn't too cool or too orange, just the perfect glowy shade. A trip to Chanel is most definitely required ASAP.

Quick update!

I've almost reached the end of my little "one blog post a day" for the month of February and wow - time absolutely flew by!

Today I really don't have much to say, I just got home from a weekend trip with some friends and I am absolutely exhausted. It was a ton of fun, though. Great food and great company in Toronto. I always enjoy myself when I go there. We spent most of our time just frequenting different lounges and restaurants, I only had one thing in mind that I wanted to purchase and I was so happy they had it in stock at Holt Renfrew:
Tom Ford Private Blend lipstick in the colour Blush Nude.

I've only gotten to wear it once and I LOVE it. Everything about it - the packaging, the smell, the smoothness, the colour. I will do a proper post and maybe try comparing the colour to some lipsticks I already own - at the moment I'd say that Blush Nude is a mix of YSL Rouge Volupte #1 and MAC Blankety so if you're a fan of those shades, you will definitely love this.
They have a few other colours that I have my eye on but I figured since they're so pricy (they set you back $45 if you're in the USA, $50 if you're in Canada... plus tax *gulp*) so I wanted my first one to be a colour I would actually wear a lot.

Have you tried these?

Body Chains

I've been admiring these cool pieces of jewelry for a while now - and I have yet to see one that I like in real life! I see them in online stores and some lookbooks, but so far no luck seeing them and trying one in person.

They may not be for everyone but I think it's the perfect statement piece to add on a simple blouse or shirt to just take it to a whole new level.

My favourite body chains in the above pictures are by the company Luv AJ (and shopbop.com carries the line) and they're not cheap - around $300 a piece - so you'd really have to try them on and feel them in person before deciding it it's a worthwhile investment.

The Erin Wasson x RVCA line (which I LOVE) has some body chains as well at a slightly lower price point and I've also seen some on Etsy. I just think they're so cool! I really want to get one soon.

What are your thoughts on them? Are they cool or just a bit too weird for your liking?

Used up so far... Part VII

It's a good thing to know that while my wish list is growing and growing each day, at least I'm finishing some products up!

This edition of what I've used up so far should be quite brief since I've talked about these products before and they're all favourites that I would definitely repurchase.

Shall we?

1. Juicy Couture - Couture Couture

I loooove this perfume. I always just buy it in rollerballs because I like to take it everywhere!

2. Makeup Forever Smoky Lash Mascara

You all know how I feel about this. Total "holy grail" material except for the fact that it dries out way too quickly and I don't want to buy a new tube every month.

3. YSL Teint Resist Foundation

I use the shade #5 and it's probably the best colour match I've ever had in a foundation (ironically enough it's the only foundation where I matched myself and didn't let a counter lady "help" me). The foundation is lightweight, smells amazing and doesn't cake up even after hours of wear.
I like it the best out of any foundation I've tried to date.

Have you finished up any products this week?

My Favourite Eyeshadows - Swatches

Today I uploaded a very requested video - my top 10 eyeshadows.

I figured I should do a blog post with some swatches of the eyeshadows that I mentioned so that you get a better idea of what the colours look like when applied on the skin.

Without further ado - here are the swatches:

From left to right:

Le Metier De Beaute - Corinthian
MAC - Satin Taupe
NARS - Nepal

From left to right:

MAC - Mulch
MAC - Soft Brown

From left to right:

NARS - Demon Lover (usually comes in a Duo, this is the darker shade)
MAC - Blanc Type
Chanel - Taupe Grise

From left to right:

Bare Minerals - Nude Beach
Bobbi Brown - Hot Stone
MAC - Style Snob

It shouldn't come as a shocker that I am a big fan of neutrals. There are a few more shades from MAC that I also love and are worth an honourable mention (MAC Sketch, Brulee, Bronze, Wedge and Swiss Chocolate) but I had to draw the line somewhere. I might do an update on this a few months or a year down the line and see what changed. I am a sucker for bronzy or taupe shades :)

Eyeliner Wars: MAC Feline Power Kohl vs. Milani Liquif'eye Black Liner

After watching LanaIndiana's eyeliner video a couple of days ago (in which, like the cutie she is, she applied two different eye liners - MAC Feline and Urban Decay 24/7 Zero - on her eyes and went about her day documenting their wear) I decided to follow suit and do my own little version.

Now in her tests, MAC Feline ended up a big fat disaster. I have never had such a problem with it and it has always been one of my favourite eyeliners so I thought it would be fair for me to share my experiences with the notorious eyeliner from MAC.

Now Feline is not a permanent offering - it pops in and out of limited edition collections but it offers the same thing every time: an intense smudgy black. I decided to pair it against one of my favourite cheaper liners, the Milani Liquif'eye eye liner pencil in black. Unfortunately I think it can only be found in the United States but if you do happen to have access to it, it's well worth the price!

These are the liners shortly after they were applied (about half an hour or so). Upon application, two main differences can be noted:
1) MAC Feline offered a more intense pigmentation right away
2) Milani Liquif'eye was a lot creamier and smoother during application, especially on the upper lid - I lined my eye in one fluid movement whereas the Feline was slightly less creamy

Now, due to the creaminess of both liners (a bit more on the Milani side), a bit of the waterline pigment was smudged into the lower lash line, so I just went over it with my finger for a smoky effect - which I always do with my eyeliner anyway, so all good!

This is the situation after 6 hours. Milani is slowly losing pigmentation on the waterline but quite evenly. Feline stays intense on most of the waterline but starts to migrate a bit towards the inner and outer corners of the eye.

Also, I should add that I do set my under-eye area with powder - I like to use Benefit's Powderflage to set my concealer and I find that it does help to prevent eyeliner from sliding so much as well.

After 10 hours they're still going. Feline is clearly holding up better on the waterline due to its more intense pigment, but both of them are great on the top lash lines and neither transfered to my brow bone.
Feline is starting to love farther down my eye in sections, though, while the Milani seems to just fade away quietly in the same area.

The Verdict: this was a close call and I would honestly repurchase both of these - for different reasons. I much preferred the smoothness of the Milani when applied to the upper lashline, but Feline definitely wins in the pigmentation on the waterline department.

Yes, they both smudge, and Feline maybe slightly more than Milani, but it's only after a good 6 hours of wear meaning you can still apply this on a night out and not worry about it sliding all over the place.
I know we all have different skins and some products might migrate more on some, but just wanted to show you guys that Feline isn't that scary, and I do think it's a very good kohl liner for sexy smudgy smoky eyes.

Only thing that is annoying about every kohl liner that I try (this doesn't happen with gel eyeliner) is that when they're smudged, they all have a bit of a bluish green haze about them.

What are your favourite eyeliners?

Another makeup wishlist (I cannot be helped!)

This is what happens when I try to limit myself... I just build up a list of insane proportions in my head and when I lift my self-imposed makeup spending ban, I will go wild (hide yo' kids, hide yo' wife).
However, I find that doing these little wish list posts really helps me hone in on what I really want and will prevent me from straying and making impulse buys.
I also love the fact that I can get your input on things and I can scratch out items that are no good.

Without further ado, here are some things to add to my list:

1. Clarins Instant Lip Perfector

One of my co-workers always raves about it, and the packaging is sleek and simple. Just a great sheer moisturizing gloss that I need to try out! It got a lot of love from Pixiwoo as well in the past.

2. Guerlain Teracotta 4 Seasons Bronzer in Shade 02 (Brunettes)
Guerlain Teracotta is kind of the mother of all bronzers, would really be a shame to go on and call myself a makeup enthusiast without ever trying this one :)

3. MAC Studio Fix Powder

One of my old favourites. I keep meaning to repurchase this and I will do so as soon as I use up my Mineralize Skinfinish Natural :)

4. Chanel Mystic Eyes Quad

I will do a bigger wishlist compilation maybe at the end of the month and go through it/condense it or scratch things out that I've purchased from the list.

Have you been lusting for anything in particular lately?

In & Out (February 21, 2011)

IN

- the urge to get lighter hair... my dark roots are starting to annoy me, I need some maintenance and some more light browns!

- berry/natural lip colours, with a hint of clear gloss. I haven't touched the nude pinks in about a week

- sexy dress of the moment:

Rag & Bone Edita dress

I tried this on a couple of weeks ago in a dark forest green shade and it was so pretty, I wanted to never take it off but honestly I still have so many dresses I've never worn, I just couldn't justify this rather pricy purchase. Also, I'm a bit of a "mesh ruiner" - flashback to the Max Azria dress I ruined in 2010 - so I best stay away... until I maybe find it on sale or something haha

- Chanel Rouge Coco Shine, they don't come out until March (one shade is available from their Spring collection - I believe it's called Boy) but I am SO excited for the whole range to come out. I have a feeling I'm really going to love these... a fitting replacement for my beloved discontinued YSL Rouge Pur Shines.

OUT

- SNOW... again... 20cm overnight... *sigh*

- the endless hunt for a perfect pair of black leather ankle boots. I only ever seem to find suede ones in styles that I like, but I want black leather!!!

- general laziness and lack of motivation... I need to snap out of it!

Currently Admiring: Burberry Prorsum

No matter how much I try to convince myself that winter is over - I went out last night and did not bring a coat... not so smart, Sandra - it's not. So it's an excuse for me to post about beautiful coats ;)

If I just happened to have $2000 to spend on a coat, I would instantly choose the Burberry Prorsum line. Stunning jackets, through and through.
From more luxurious offerings like the one pictured below on Blake Lively -

To this stunning feminine jacket (it's from their 2007 collection but such a timeless and chic piece, nonetheless) -

Finishing off with a sexy "rock n roll" option with leather sleeves and backing -

Burberry Prorsum just do it like no other.

I like the classic Burberry trench coats as well, but the Prorsum line always kicks it up an extra notch and makes pieces that are more memorable an luxurious.

Hope you're all having a lovely Sunday - now I'm off to cuddle up in my bed some more and try to not think about the fact that it's still -10 degrees Celsius outside.

xoxoxo

Face Of The Day - February 19

This is the look that I had for my Ulta haul video and it's one of my favourite daytime looks - I resort to it quite often!

Face:
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation #5
Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer #SC-4
Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder
Benefit Hoola Bronzer
NARS Sin Blush

Lips:
Chanel Rouge Coco in Rose Comete

Eyes:
just 2 eyeshadows

MAC Soft Brown in the crease, MAC Mulch all over the lid
on soft fluffy brushes like the MAC 217 and 224

MAC Feline eyeliner, Diorshow Extase Mascara

Mulch and Soft Brown by MAC are always two shades I can rely on. Beautiful texture, great pigmentation - versatile colours that you will not regret purchasing :)

Happy Saturday!

ANOTHER Makeup Wishlist...

It's funny how as soon as I try to behave and not buy any makeup until I use some of my things up, all these wonderful things come to my attention and my wish list just keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger... all I can really do is add on to the list and blog about it.

1. Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation

Holy crap! I got a sample of this ages ago and uncovered it yesterday, put it on - a tiny amount, with a MAC 190 foundation brush... sheered out - and it was lovely! It's everything I wanted Chanel Mat Lumiere to be. Extremely long lasting, satin finish, didn't need any powder and did not settle into any pores or lines. I have to keep this in mind for a summer foundation.

2. Tom Ford Private Blend Lip Colour

This weekend I was supposed to go to Montreal with my family but plans fell through, so instead I am going to Toronto next weekend with some girlfriends - meaning I get to go to Holt Renfrew again and they have Tom Ford lipsticks there - YAY! Last time I went they were sold out of every shade I wanted, so I hope I have better luck this time... I've got my eye on Blush Nude and True Coral.

3. A new MAC blush... a peach colour, to be exact.

I'm in between Melba, Peaches or Springsheen by MAC. I want a natural, gorgeous true peach. Most of my blushes are pink or plum or rosy/coral, I need to complement my collection with a pretty peach shade.
Which ones are your favourite peach blushes?

These three join my ever-growing "To Buy" list... now here's hoping I contain myself and get to finish some products before I make any new purchases!

Hope you're having a great weekend

Fashion Week Loving - Victoria Beckham Fall 2011

I've been casually observing (via style.com) the happenings of New York Fashion Week, and I must say that I really really loved Victoria Beckham's collection.

The neutral shades in particular, the draping and the loose-fitting numbers stole my heart.

This cashmere dress is probably my favourite. Looks so comfortable and versatile. The boots were to die for as well (all by Christian Louboutin).

This cocoon dress impressed me as well. Love the interesting pattern and the muted greens... she also designed outerwear for the first time - very structured yet feminine jackets.

The price points of these will probably be insane but I had to do a little post because my mind has been on this collection for a few days now!

Do you follow fashion weeks?

Blast from Sold Out Shoe Past...

I figured I dedicate today's post to some shoes that have stolen my heart in the past and that I still secretly check up on hoping they get re-released or pop up in a sample sale somewhere.

Now I don't know exactly which collections they came from, I think most of them are from 2009, but I still love them (perhaps even more than some of the new shoes that have been coming out - none of which have impressed me in particular just yet).

Without further ado...

1. The YSL Imperiale

The most "famous" version was the all black suede one (and Jessica Simpson/Dolce Vita made some very similar inspired shoes) but my absolute favourite is this gray with patent and suede combined. Probably my favourite wedge ever and I would kill for a pair. I think they're much cooler than the YSL Tribtoo that have been worn to death by celebs. Don't get me wrong - I like the YSL Tribtoos but I'd take the Imperiales (or the Palais, for that matter) over them any day! Come on, YSL, bring them back!!

2. The Christian Louboutin Maggie

I first saw these on Victoria Beckham (I do love her, I must say) when she was photographed at a Laker's game and swoon... by the time I checked Net-A-Porter they were gone. They did them in a few different colour options but this particular one was the most striking to me. Gorgeous and interesting colour combination, 140mm platform and heel... love!

3. The Giuseppe Zanotti Sculpted Wedge

Now this came in two main versions - the pump and the ankle boot... both of which are absolutely gorgeous.

The leopard print ankle boot was really big with all the fashion blogs when they first came out and it's easy to see why - they're so badass! Architecturally stunning, I love the way the wedge heel comes in at an angle, and the platform is to die for. Walking in these might be a bit of a challenge but hey... I wouldn't mind! The pumps are a bit more tame but the think ankle strap gives them a bit of a sexy edge.

So those are the sold out shoes from the past that I'm still thinking about...

Am I the only one still drooling over styles that sold out from past seasons? *blushes*

A Bronzing tale: Benefit Hoola and NARS Laguna

With the snow outside finally starting to melt I thought it fit for me to do a post about the two bronzers that I have been using for the past year. As you can probably tell from the title, they're Benefit's "Hoola" and NARS "Laguna".

They are both rather weak from a packaging aspect - Hoola is in a cardboard box and Laguna's black casing attracts all the scratches and marks in the world... but it's what's inside that counts... so let's take a closer look:

Since I've been using both for over a year now, it is no surprise that I have hit pan on them. Hoola is on the left, Laguna on the right.

up close shot of Benefit Hoola

Benefit Hoola is definitely my favourite of the two. It has a matte finish but it's not a dull, bland matte. It is very finely milled and incredibly easy to blend in and build up.
I would love to repurchase this and I would do it in an instant - if I didn't hate the packaging so much.
The cardboard is just so cheap and ugly... it comes with a useless brush, and the deep square shape of the container is very impractical. Larger bronzer brushes might have trouble fitting in there properly.
Such a shame because I really do love the powder. This costs $28 at Sephora, or $35 if you like to get ripped off and purchase it from the Shoppers Drug Mart beauty boutique (that's where I got mine, but only because I could redeem my rewards points for it haha).

NARS Laguna is also a good bronzer, but I wasn't wowed by it so much that I would justify a repurchase. It retails for $33 at Sephora. It does give a nice bronzy glow, but the application isn't as smooth as Benefit Hoola's. It's quite easy to mess up and get it looking patchy and uneven. Also, it's also not as easy to build up.
It has a fine shimmer in it which I don't mind - it is very subdued and doesn't make you look like a glitterball by all means. It gives a nice glow to the cheekbones. If you're like me and have some acne scarring on your cheek area, be careful with this since the shimmer particles in it do tend to accentuate any uneven skin texture. Use a good primer/foundation beforehand.

from left to right: Benefit Hoola, NARS Laguna

When swatched, they are very similar colour-wise. Hoola shows up a hint deeper because of its matte texture. There's also a hint less orange in Hoola than in Laguna.
On me, they show up very similar when applied, but I just personally prefer the texture and application of Benefit Hoola.

I hear good things about the Dior matte bronzers, so I am keen on giving them a try - unless by some miracle Benefit gets rid of the cardboard box (highly unlikely). I don't mind the boxes for the blushes, but since I like to carry bronzer around with me, I like a bronzer compact that's resistant, accessible with different kinds of brushes and with a nice big mirror on it.

What bronzers are you using at the moment and would you repurchase them?
Have you tried the Dior matte bronzers?

Things I've really been enjoying lately

As the title suggests...

- MAC Strobe Cream mixed with my foundation for a glowing complexion

- Essie's "A French Affair" collection, I totally fell in love with this when I saw it on display... the names, the shades *sigh* so I decided to make my second nailpolish purchase that I'm allowing myself for the year (I'm only allowing myself 5) - I bought the cube with 4 mini bottles of shades from this collection and so far I've worn two: Coat Azure and French Affair and I love both. Blog post to come! The reason I don't count these as 4 polishes is because each mini bottle has 5mL of polish, whereas a regular bottle contains 15mL... so ya know... I'm bending the rules here ;)

- Lucky Charms Cereal

- pretty much any song Drake is in

- Victoria Beckham's collection that she showed at NY Fashion Week today

- motorcycle boots... I have been wearing them for 2 months straight

- American Idol (not as bad as I thought without Simon!)

That's about it for me... keeping it light today since I'm still in the middle of exams.
Hope you all have a great week :)

Chanel Beauty Wishlist

My Chanel fangirl phase continues with an ever-growing list of beauty products of theirs that I am just dying to try.

Here's what's been on my mind lately:

Aragonite Glossimer

I've never tried a Chanel lipgloss before (shocking, I know) and this seems to be getting a lot of positive reviews and it just looks so beautiful - I'm dying to check it out! It's part of their new spring 2011 collection and seems to be the perfect gloss to layer on top of lipsticks.
Any other Chanel Glossimer recommendations for me?

Loose Powder

I blame Pixiwoo for this one, they use it in many of their videos paired with Chanel foundations and the finish is always so nice and natural. I'm excited to use up my Laura Mericer translucent loose powder (which is nothing to rave about, really) and give this a try!

Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation

Seems like it would be the perfect lightweight foundation for the summer! Again I'm waiting to use up one of my 3 foundations I have on rotation right now before I give this a try :)

Soleil Tan De Chanel Bronzer

Last but not least - perhaps the product I've been wanting to try or the longest... as soon as my NARS Laguna (again, a product that leaves much to be desired) runs out I am speeding to Chanel and buying this baby. I have to try it!

Have you had any experiences with any of the products I mentioned? What's on your Chanel beauty wishlist?

Hope you all have a great weekend :)

Online Shoppers Anonymous

If you've followed my blog for a while you will know that I love shopping online very much. I love frequenting numerous online boutiques and seeing what they have to offer - and while most of the stores I frequent carry a lot of the same brands I like, I find it very useful to check out different ways some items are styled/modelled/photographed.

A relatively new online boutique that has come to my attention recently has been Tobi.com - they carry a wide array of brands that I usually blog about - J Brand, Elizabeth & James, T Alexander Wang, Kain, etc. and I really love the way the layout of the website is so simple...

Reminds me of the simpler days of Shopbop (I still adore their lookbooks though) and Revolve before it went all high-tech (takes me a while to get used to!). I like the clear large photos of the items and how they're laid out. If you're in the US you're in luck because they offer free shipping.

Sadly in Canada very rarely do we ever get free shipping on things, and when we do (from my personal experience with Asos/Zappos/Shopbop/Revolve) we get rocked by customs because that's just how the rules are. *cries in corner*

Anyways, just wanted to share this new site with you guys, they always have a coupon code around for up to 25% off all merchandise (the one they have going on now is FRESHLOOK) so that's amazing. I'm thinking of buying another Kain label top since the white one I bought in the summer has been a staple for me... maybe this one?

Have you found any new online shopping websites you're excited about?

There's also this vegan supply website that's supposed to carry amazing vegan caramel and I really want to try that also (random, I know... haha) ever since I saw it on my friend Keri's blog - I'm not vegan but I do enjoy some vegan recipes and Keri's blog, I Eat Trees is a really great read.

In & Out (February 11, 2011)

So it's been just over 10 days of my "1 Blog Post A Day" for the entire month of February attempt.

How am I doing so far?
Are you sick of reading my blabbering yet :) ?

IN

- Dior Lip Glow... a simple lip balm that offers a beautiful rosy pink colour with a slight sheen... it's all I've been wearing these days

- Reading Week... a week off school starting February 18th! YAY! I plan on doing tons of videos so don't hesitate to post any requests in the comment section below.

- this Brian Lichtenberg dress. He's a pretty cool LA-based designer and while a lot of his dresses are a bit too "Kim Kardashian" for my liking, this one is just so fabulous. I love the intense gold glittery texture of the fabric.

- Happy Birthday Dad :)

OUT

- my closet. needs a clean-out ASAP.

- lack of motivation for studying... I really need to get started...

- terrible nails! In dire need of a manicure.

Mmmm... Chanel

I am such a Chanel fangirl. I can't help it. Anything from their cosmetics to their accessories and runway shows always impresses (except for maybe their costume jewelry...).

Since yesterday I expressed my strong desires to go to Paris this year, why not take the dream a bit further and share with you the one purchase I would love to make on my first trip to France - the ever so lovely Chanel Wallet On A Chain (or WOC, as it is abbreviated in the purse forums haha).

I love everything about it, except for maybe the price. The one pictured above costs in the $1500 range, which is pretty wacky for a wallet (on a chain!), but it's Chanel so it fits right in with their pricing structure.

It's a lovely timeless statement piece. I love the way it's worn in the picture I posted above as a day crossbody type of bag, and of course it can be a charming accessory to carry at a special event at night.

I absolutely love making special purchases like these while traveling. I try to associate each trip I make with a special purchase - so this Chanel baby needs to be acquired on a Paris trip. Maybe not on my first Paris trip, but I'm reserving it for one in the future :)
