Chanel Perfection Lumiere Review

Alright, so this is the new baby in Chanel's foundation family and it is the replacement of Pro Lumiere (a foundation that I previously owned and wasn't over the moon about since I was too oily for it).
I bought Perfection Lumiere without even sampling it before, the lady slapped about 4 different shades on me in order to match me - B30 if you ask - and I happily trotted out of the store.
I got this in the USA last month at Saks Fifth Avenue, I don't think it is released in Canada yet. It costs $55 which is the standard Chanel foundation pricing.

Now let's get to it:

Packaging is beautiful - classic Chanel in a glass bottle and with a pump that tends to clog a bit in the same way that Mat Lumiere foundation does.

What's inside:

one pump of Chanel Perfection Lumiere in B30
This is what it looks like applied on the skin, with nothing else on - no concealer no powder:

coverage from 2 pumps
I found it quite difficult to apply (you can see some streaking around my forehead/temples where I tend to have drier skin). You have to work one small area at a time since it sets so quickly. I found that a classic flat foundation brush (like a MAC 190) is the best way to apply it in order to get an even finish.

The finish is a satin-matte finish. The coverage is light-medium. It evens out skin tone but if you have any scarring or pigmentation, like I do, it will show through.

It's a very "oily skin friendly" foundation. However, if you have ANY dry patches it's going to make them look awful. I definitely do not recommend this if you have dry skin - unless you moisturize and use a primer beforehand in order to provide a good base. Even I need some sort of primer before this in order to get it to look right - I use La Roche Posay Effaclar K as a foundation primer.

It photographs very well - here is the final product once I added in concealer (Bobbi Brown "Natural"), bronzer (Dior Sunshine) and blush (MAC Redhead MSF):

THE PROS:

- extended colour range, way better than previous Chanel Foundation colour selection
- great for normal-oily skin, doesn't require any powder to set and lasts up to 6-8 hours on me without touch-ups
- natural satin-matte finish
- light medium coverage (which you could build up but I prefer to just use concealer on any areas of concern)
- doesn't break me out
- photographs well
- doesn't feel as heavy on the skin as Chanel Mat Lumiere or Pro Lumiere

THE CONS:

- terrible on any patches of dry skin
- hard to blend, takes a bit more work in order to get it to look right
- very heavily scented - smells like Chanel's Hydramax skincare line which smells nice for skincare but not as a lingering scent of foundation
- pump tends to clog
- dries down almost an entire shade darker than when you first swatch it on the skin, so be careful when choosing the right shade

In conclusion, I don't hate this foundation yet I'm not amazed by it either. To be honest I was more vowed by Vitalumiere Aqua which I really loved except for the fact that it broke me out so I never bought the full size.
I think that it's a nice foundation and t will probably work very well for me as a night-time summer foundation because it has a good lasting power on oily skin without feeling heavy (which was my major CON with Chanel Mat Lumiere).

If you are a fan of Mat Lumiere, you should definitely give this one a go!

Seeing Red

Over the past few weeks I've been quite enamoured by red nail polish. Always a classic but often forgotten about by me since I tend to be caught up in those trendy unusual colours that seem to pop up every season. However, a good red can really be all you need in any situation.

Unfortunately, in my little collection of reds, I can't help to think that there is something missing...

YSL #4, OPI Glove You So Much, Nicole by OPI Merry Merlot, OPI Can You Tapas This?, Essie Limited Addiction, Eyeko Coral, Essie Lollipop, OPI Cajun Shrimp
In between the rich vampy red of Essie's Limited Addiction (which for some reason looks way brighter in the photo as it does on the nails) and the bright tomato/coral reds I own, I feel like I lack a proper classic red. I'm wearing Cajun Shrimp right now and while it's one of my favourite nail polishes that I own, it just doesn't seem to fit the bill. I lack a good classic red, with a hint of raspberry perhaps?

What are your favourite red nail polishes?

Which shade do you think I'm lacking?

IN and OUT

IN

- Gossip Girl. I rant about this show like no other but finally after almost catching up to the season (just finished episode 4) I really do like it so far. Dare I say Dan is one of my favourite characters at the moment which I never thought I'd say. Charlie/Ivey/whatever her name is can fall into a deep ditch and never come out.

- Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Lattes. This is my first year trying them and it's the only think I've ordered all season. I order mine tall with soy and no whip :)

- Really loving makeup-looks such as the one I found on a See by Chloe lookbook. Leighton Meester has been wearing a similar look on Gossip Girl this season that I adore, sometimes kicked up with a matte bright lipstick. Love!!

simple, no fuss, polished and beautiful!
- the makeup buying ban is over on Monday, I've used up 6 products *does happy dance* and since I totally ran out of mascara an emergency purchase of Prestige My Blackest Lashes had to be made (50% off at Rexall on all mascaras right now meaning I got it for $4.50, wooohoo).

- doing my first ever little swap with Vivianna, whose channel and blog I LOVE and you need to check out. She lives in the UK and she's so beautiful and fun to watch. I'm excited to do a bit of shopping for her :)

- I'm getting that itch to switch my skincare up a bit... it's in an annoying "combination" state right now. Super dry and flaky nose due to being sick for so long, and oily on the cheeks. Skincare will always be my ultimate obsession.

- NUXE lip balm.

Fall Outfit and Makeup... and lack of title creativity

Today has been one of those days in which I have wanted to throw my laptop out the window numerous times. Even opening a PDF file results in the "rainbow wheel of doom".

Anyways, when I wasn't cursing at inanimate objects, I did manage to somehow photograph myself stepping out into a beautiful fall day wearing some new pieces I had purchased for the season as well as my new foundation (Chanel Perfection Lumiere - don't know how I feel about it yet).

My scarf is from Zara and it has these cute tassels on the corners. The animal print-ish top is from Forever 21, the jeans are 7 for all Mankind (the style is Gwenevere or something like that), flats are by Lanvin and belt from J. Crew. No jewelry aside from simple silver stud earrings. I also didn't carry a handbag because I just haven't been carrying stuff with me lately other than my wallet, phone & keys.

The makeup:
Face - Chanel Perfection Lumiere foundation in B30, Tarte Exposed blush
Eyes - Benefit Where There's Smoke eyeshadow all over the lid, Chanel Taupe Grise eyeshadow in the crease, MAC Feline eyeliner, MUFE Smoky Lash mascara, Stila Topaz eyeliner on waterline
Lips - Catrice Nude Rose lipliner, MAC Oyster Girl lipgloss

Now off to catch up on Gossip Girl - I finished the first episode of the fifth season and is it just me or is their acting even worse than before? Why does Rufus look younger than his son? Am I supposed to really believe the Blair marriage with child storyline? How many cougars will Nate sleep with in his lifetime?
So many questions, so little time!

xoxo (haha)

Face of the day (FOTD) - keeping it neutral

Shock horror, another natural makeup look sported by me!!
I know it's not anything new, but I just figured I would do a quick post to go in conjunction with my latest YouTube video - which was a brief review of the Giorgio Armani Master Corrector - to better showcase its natural and seamless application:

It's a great, quick neutral look to do for school or work or both :)

Face:
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in #5
Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel (Bronze Universel)
MAC Trace Gold blush

Lips:
A little bit of Catrice Nude Rose lipliner
bit of NARS Turkish Delight lipgloss

Eyes:
MAC Bare Study paint pot all over the lid
Le Meier De Beaute Corinthian eyeshadow in the crease and outer corner
MAC Feline eyeliner smudged in upper lashline
Makeup Forever Smoky Lash mascara
Stila Kajal in Topaz on the waterline

Hope you had a fantastic week... I'm SO ready for the weekend.
xx

Fall Style Inspiration

Cute patterns, bold shoes, badass black leather jackets and plenty of oxford shirts!

That is on my radar for this fall... I gathered a few pictures that inspired me from my Internet rummaging over the past week and I hope you enjoy :)

that small Evil Eye ring is to die for, as is the dress :)

I would have never thought to mix all these patterns together (this is all by Thakoon - from a stunning Shopbop lookbook), but it looks so chic in this photo... from the jewelry to the nail polish to the shoes!

Arizona arm candy, and some holiday photos!

This post will be short and sweet word-wise, so just sit back and relax and enjoy a few random photographs from my trip!

I'm going to start with showing you what I bought. I went on some sort of bracelet rampage at Phoenix Fashion week. There were tons of little stands where local designers showcased their merchandise and had it for sale, my friend and I had so much fun checking out all the items and here's what I ended up purchasing (followed by some photos from the event - we had tickets to the Saturday night show):

the first is by Alex & Ani (from Nordstrom), the red beaded one is from Nordstrom as well,
the last 2 were from one of the stands at the event - no brand name

all from a stand from the event aside from the thin white gold chain which I've had for ages :)

Now for some Phoenix fun:

my friend Andra and I before we headed out :)

out for brunch :)

some fantastic Eel rolls at RA Sushi in Tempe, AZ
casual dinner outfit:
jeans - 7 for all mankind
sweater - Trouve
tank - J Crew
bracelets - from above :)
belt - BCBG
flats - Prada
amazing!
All in all it was a wonderful - albeit short - trip and I loved catching up with a good friend that I hadn't seen in ages. I was sick most of the time due to a pesky cold but I still managed to soak up all the beauty that the Phoenix/Scottsdale area had to offer and can't wait to go back (it was my 3rd time there, I'm sure there will be more).

Hope you had a great day,

xoxo

Weekend Wining & Dining - outfit and makeup

I managed to scrape by with one photo of my outfit before heading out for a dinner date with a friend, so I hope you enjoy although the lighting is a bit weird and is giving me brassy hair syndrome.

My hair is a brass magnet, I swear. The dark, luscious cool brown tones I had in it just a month ago have faded into oblivion and I am now rocking a mixed plate of golden browns, coppery highlights and a mere shadow of the dark brown that used to be. Ho hum. Getting that fixed later today :)

Anyway, hair blabber aside - here's what I wore:

A plain grey/mauve tunic (reminds me of the colour of Metro Chic nail polish haha), opaque black tights paired with thick wool thigh-high socks - all great fall basics, which I got from Winners and Nordstrom, respectively.
Black over the knee leather boots - Tahari
Bracelets - Nordstrom, Forever21
Blazer - Marc by Marc Jacobs
Belt - J Crew

And for the makeup, I pulled some old and new pieces out to play :)

Face - Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation, Giorgio Armani Master Corrector #1 under the eyes, Dior Matte Bronzer #2, NARS Sin blush
Eyes - Chanel Illusoire eyeshadow all over the lid, MAC Wedge eyeshadow in the crease, Bare Escentuals Nude Beach in the inner quarter of the eyelid. MAC Feline eyeliner and Makeup Forever Smoky Lash mascara.
Lips - Catrice Nude Rose lipliner, MAC Speed Dial lipstick

Hope you all have a fantastic start to the week!

So close, yet so far...

Remember my coloured denim post here?
The red jeans and simple striped top, in particular...

Well, today I came so close, here I am reporting live from an American Eagle changing room! I haven't stepped into this store in ages but I was pleasantly surprised to see EXACTLY what I was looking for, hanging from the shelves... and on sale, cha ching!
I quickly went in the room and changed but something just wasn't right :(

Don't you just hate that? The tops were only left in size XL, which doesn't look too bad in the picture but it was just SO long and the sleeves were just a bit awkward.
The jeans I was exactly in between sizes. One size was too tight - muffin top tight - and the size I have on in the photo was saggy in the back.

I'm sad... but I guess that the hunt continues!!

Hope your shopping ventures this week were more successful than mine, my makeup/skincare buying ban is still going strong!

xoxo

In and Out, October 2011

IN

- beautiful fall weather here over the past few days

- SO many favourite shows I need to catch up on. I love that because it always gives me something to do... I have yet to watch Gossip Girl and Dexter this season so I'm excited to do so. Also got hooked on How To Make It In America, and getting my reality TV fix weekly with Made in Chelsea, The Only Way is Essex, US and UK X-factor and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills!  PHEW! That was a mouthful

- catching up with old friends. It was so lovely to see a close family friend that I've known since first grade back in Romania, Phoenix is a cool city to visit and we went to a great fashion show on the last night of Phoenix Fashion Week.
It was so well produced and featured some beautiful designs and models so we just soaked it all up! Will do a post on it later on in the week. I'm suffering from a monster cold at the moment and have barely touched my camera's memory card.

- bright lipsticks. I've been wearing MAC's Impassioned a lot, and even busted out Chanel's Dragon from the archives (albeit toned down as a stain).

- this dress by Pencey... it's currently being eyed by me. The perfect Fall piece - for layering, or wearing alone with a myriad of different accessories. I want.

OUT

- got a monster cold right before midterms. Figures.

- my closet looks like a tornado has raided it again

- I'm so congested that I can't think of anything else...

Excuses, Excuses

I've been the worst blogger ever.
Midterm exams, impending long weekend getaway and trying to fit in a bit of time at the gym a few times a week has really been cutting into my free time.

Anyways, just thought I'd post a quick update/summary type thing using little snapshots from my beloved iPhone's Instagram App.

1. All packed and ready for tomorrow!
2. Vintage watch love
3, 5, 12 - I am obsessed with my Tassimo machine, can't you tell?
4. Saturday night debauchery
6. Lancome Doll Lashes can be so nice when it doesn't transfer
7. the weather forecast for the Phoenix region this weekend *happy dance*
8. The last makeup acquisitions before the October Ban started (I had ordered some Chanel items in advance, and I've been craving a second helping of MUFE Smoky Lash for ages now)
9. the post-gym regime
10. my first piece of Apple, yesterday was a sad day
11. Avene Diacneal, my love for this is rekindled.

How was your week?
Any Thanksgiving plans, fellow Canadians?

I will try to capture some OOTDs while I am away since I'm bringing my camera, I'll have nice backgrounds AND even nicer friends with me all weekend so stay tuned :)
