January Favourites

My favourites this month are about as exciting as watching paint dry - Laura Mercier Secret Brightener, Collection 2000 concealer, Armani corrector, Liz Earle Sheer Skin Tint, La Roche Posay Toleriane lotion, Effaclar Duo... all on heavy rotation as always.
I thought I would forgo a video and instead bring to your attention the one product that I haven't really mentioned before and that has totally rocked my socks (and cheeks) ever since I received it from the company in December. The product is Benefit's Hervana and here I am wearing it in all its glory:

I am wearing it quite sheer. The finish is gorgeous - matte bordering on slightly satin. The finish and texture of the powder is probably my favourite thing about this blush. If you are a fan of Well Dressed blush by MAC and Madly by NARS, consider Hervana somewhere in the middle of both. I love the fact that it's such a versatile blush, it can literally go with any makeup look.

the pretty design doesn't budge as you swirl your brush around to get all the colours
You can wear it sheer like I am or you can build it up if you want to put more focus on your cheeks.
The packaging is quirky and standard Benefit. You all know how I feel about the boxes (I am Hoola's biggest fan but the packaging drove me nuts). They have changed the packaging slightly to offer a little mirror and the lid has a magnetic closure as opposed to completely coming off as before.

I'm still not the biggest fan of the boxes but I know that many women love the quirky design and like to collect them. They are cute, especially with the little sayings on the sides like on Hervana, but just not as portable/travel-friendly as I'd like. I don't store my makeup in a way that it's displayed (I basically throw everything into a drawer separated into "eyes, lips face" and call it a day) so the cardboard boxes tend to get a bit beat up. But, with some products, I just have to make an exception. I've been really missing Hoola as well since it worked so well with my skin tone both in summer and winter.
Anyway, enough rambling. I have been wearing this blush almost daily since its release. The powder smells nice too, slightly floral. I have seen it at Sephora here - who now lowered the Canadian order limit to $75 for free shipping which made me happy, it was $120 before! Of course you can order it from Benefit's website or Ulta as well if you're in the US.

As for the rest of my makeup, I wore:

Chanel Perfection Lumiere foundation in shade B30 (it photographs nicely but don't be fooled, this foundation is a b*tch to apply), Chanel loose powder in shade 30, Bourjois Chocolate Bronzer in shade 52, Benefit Hervana blush.
MAC Brulee eyeshadow all over the eyelid, MAC Wedge eyeshadow in the crease, Giorgio Armani Maestro liquid liner and Eyes to Kill Excess mascara.
On my lips I busted out an oldie - MAC Jazzed from the In the Groove collection from a couple of summers ago.

Hope your January was great! Mine was stressful and February is shaping up to be the same. However, if you have Instagram, I am planning on doing the "#febphotoaday" challenge: one photo per day, following a particular theme, if you search for the tag in the program you will see more about it. It seemed fun so follow me on there if you'd like, my username is "tt5andra" because weirdly enough both "ttsandra" and "5andra" were taken by other users *evil stare*.
If you're not part of the iWorld or don't care about Instagram, I may do a summary of it on here and I will tweet the pictures as well!

xx

  5. How do you recommend applying the Chanel Perfection Lumiere? I struggle using my Sigma stippling brush :(

  6. Hi.
I love the Hervana blush as well. I was really hating Chanel Perfection Lumiere because it would apply patchy, but it applies so beautifully with the beauty blender. Give it a whirl! :)

  9. Your makeup looks great in the pics! I really want to try Hervana but don't think it is out where I live yet! This is making me want it even more.

  10. hmmm I might get this if its on promotion or something. I wish Benefit would do another threepowdersinone box with Hervana, Hoola, and bella bamba. THAT would justify the purchase for me for sure! #daretodream xx

  11. It looks so pretty. I've almost finished Dandelion maybe that could justify a purchase?! x

  12. sandra, i bought hervana because i LOVED the way it looked on you on once picture you posted back in december (or so...). and it sure was a great buy (not the first time i purchased something you like)! love your blog (and equally your youtubechannel), i just can relate to the way you wear your make-up so much! sending you a lot of greetings to canada from the czech republic :)

  13. Hi Sandra :) First things first: you look LOVELY in this pic ;)
It was a very good idea to skip the video on your Jan faves and do this lovely review instead (even though your favourites are NOT boring ;) I use and LOVE most of them ;))
Haven't tried this blusher yet, but you sure made me curious... isn't is a bit too shimmery? (it looks like so in the pan, but not on the photo :/ how does it look like in your face in real life?? lol!)
And about the Chanel's PL: i totally agree: hated the way it applies and do not think it's a good replacement for neither one of the 2 foundations it's supposed to replace!!!
Ok... I think I may have goone a tiny over board w/ the length of my comment ;)
    have a lovely day :D

xx all the way from sunny Portugal ;)

    1. hi Raquel - it's not shimmery at all when applied.... I mentioned in the blog post that it has a satin/matte finish on the skin! :)

    2. I know! pls don't get me wrong!! I was not doubting what you wrote... but... it's just so pretty on you, but looks so shimmery in the package... I should've said smth like: "The finish is satin/ matte??!?! seriously?!?!?! IN REAL LIFE??? I would've never guessed!!" ;) It was just a problem of expressing myself in a different language than my own... :)
Thank you for bothering to answer anyway ;)

  14. Some Shoppers Drug Mart stores in Toronto carry the Benefit line, and they've had Hervana on display... I believe it retailed for $36... I was tempted but I kind of went spring line crazy and blew my makeup budget :)

  16. I tried the Hervana blush today and found it to be quite reddy pink... on you it seems a lot more bronzy pink. Perhaps the assistant put too much on me ?! either way I'm a little put off from it and you look so gorgeous with it on.

  17. Looks lovely, Benefit Hervana is available at Shopper's here in Toronto...I think it's $34 CND.

  18. I actually purchased this blush after seeing you in a video using it….and I do love it!! As for the Chanel Perfection Lumiere, have you ever tried using a Beauty Blender. I have always used a brush to apply my foundation, and noticed that sometimes my foundation was streaky…so, one day after seeing another youtube video, I decided to purchase it and I have to say "I will never use a brush again for foundation!!"

  26. Wow, the moment I saw your lip colour, I stopped reading and immediately scanned until I found out what you used! I was happy to discover that it was something I own, hehe...but I'd love to know how you made it look so wearable! It looks like a muted peach on your lips rather than the chalky orange on mine :( Maybe your skin tone is just better suited for it, sigh. Anyway, I will read the rest of your post now ;)

  28. Holy sh*t you look gorgeous! Yes, you always look beautiful, but this look is really a stunner! The black liner really gives you those bambi-eyes and you have that perfect "glow" about you. I'm definitely checking out that Benefit Hervana blush. Love the lipstick as well. :)

I liked that you did a blogpost, instead of a video and focused on one product. Lovely, inspiring, easy read. <3

  29. Sandra, you look so gorgeous! I know this post is focused on the blush, but I have to say I really love that lipstick color on you! It's beautiful...it makes your brown eyes pop, along with the thicker black eyeliner.

For the Perfection Lumiere, try my trick (if you haven't already) - mix it with your Bourjois Healthy Mix. That's what I do, and it gives it just enough slip to go on more smoothly. Try about a 1/4 Bourjois:3/4 Chanel ratio. It works for me! :)

  34. I agree with Bunny Days, that Jazzed lippie is magic. Is one of my all time favorite lipsticks. I got 3 backups :) You look stunning on the pictures Sandra, I am truly jealous of your cheekbones, which means any blush happy to lay on your pretty face. I am a little bummed by your comment on the Chanel foundation, I was so excited to try it, since at least the coloring is better. Being an NC 40 gives me very few options at the Chanel counter :( Love from Montreal xoxo
