One product is new, one product is old... but La Roche Posay is keeping me happy :)
If you follow me on Twitter, you will know that during the past couple of weeks my skin started reacting negatively to something. I can't quite pin-point the cause since I haven't used any exfoliating acids in a long time or anything. But there had been 3 heavily fragranced products, 1 lotion and 2 Bourjois foundations, that I had been using daily since my big flare-up so I just blamed those.
At night my skin would get so red and irritated even after cleansing with the gentle cleansers I've used for a long time. It would feel sore and tight no matter how gentle I cleansed. I had dry patches where my breakouts had started to clear (with the help of another one of my La Roche Posay staples - Effaclar Duo spot treatment) so on them I used Cicaplast, as I usually do.
I am not sure if I mentioned this product before, but I have owned it for a while now ever since I saw it used as a makeup primer in Lisa Eldridge's acne covering video. It is a gentle and effective skincare product designed for irritated skin (post procedures like chemical peels, etc.) and it acts like a protective barrier that boosts the skin's capability to repair itself. I use it at night on any flaky over-exfoliated sensitive areas and it's great.
However, my skin was still feeling awful, it needed something more. Since I discontinued the use to my super-fragranced lotion and my skin was feeling tight, I perused the aisles of Shoppers Drug Mart in search of a rescue. Naturally I turned to La Roche Posay again. I chose the soothing protective skincare lotion from the Toleriane range and I was NOT disappointed.
Dare I say this is the best lotion I've ever used? I chose the version for normal/combination skin since I am quite oily, but they also have an "ultra" formula for dry skins.
The texture is milky, it's gentle, it soothes the skin instantly, and it sinks in without leaving any greasy residue. It also has no scent at all. I am obsessed. After 2 days of using it morning and night, my redness has almost completely subsided.
If you suffer from sensitive yet oily/combination skin like me and are in search of a new lotion - check this one out. I am SO happy that I did.

Thank you for introducing me to La Roche Posay! Because of your reviews I bought the Effaclar Duo and it works amazing on my spots!
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better, fingers crossed these products will work for you!!
Best wishes,
Anca
I am so happy that it works for you, Anca!!
DeleteYay, it's great that you found a moisturizer that your skin loves! I was never really interested that much in the La Roche Posay skincare before, I assumed that as there were no revolutionary ingredients in most of their products, they just wouldn't do anything. But now, Toleriane Ultra and Lipikar Baume AP for the body are two of my absolute everyday staples, so I guess sometimes less is really more (oh, look at me, being so philosophical about skincare:). Also, your post just reminded me that I need to try Cicaplast as well :)
ReplyDeletesometimes, especially when dealing with skin sensitivity, i find that the "less is more" analogy really does work (for me at least). Toleriane has made me so happy lately haha
DeleteThanks so much for posting this! I've currently been having a little more irritation after exfoliating and using my Retinol. More than normal. I'm going to check it out!
ReplyDeletexo~Crystal
hope you like it, Crystal! xo
DeleteI love LRP effaclar M moisturizer, which keeps me matte all day! Cicaplast is great on scars, burns etc...It can also be used on chapped lips!
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to trying the effaclar M in the spring/summer when my skin tends to get more oily. i have a sample of it and it always gets rave reviews
DeleteGosh you sound like me! Two months ago suddenly my skin went nuts. I found out my skin can not tolerate Jojobo oil and Retinol and recently got the itches from Clarins aswell.
ReplyDeleteI have been using Cicoplast by LRP as well and Im using a daily moisturizer by Weleda at the moment or Citaphil. I started using Clarins as well, but it left me with rough patches on my skin :(
I never ever had that many problems with my skin, yes it was dry and sensitive but never really had dry and flaky patches before.
Im def. going to try soothing protective skincare lotion, thank you so much for this article!!
i also find that winter weather makes it even worse.. my skin always gets super sensitive
DeleteWill have to check this out - not heard of it before. Thanks for the heads up!

glad to hear you found yourself some rescuers!
ReplyDeleteit's funny 'cause I just came home from doing a little shopping and I too got myself some La Roche-Posay saviors :D
well, one is actually from Avène but still ;)
I'm so grateful that there are brands (Liz Earle, La Roche-Posay, Avène..) who aren't selling rubbish stuff that is supposed to help when actually it's making things worse.. like most products in skincare, ugh. a big yay for calming & gentle skincare!
Sandra, do you use sunscreen daily? I would love to try this cream, but usually wear moisturisers with SPF in it.
ReplyDeleteah! i've been on the search for a new moisturizer. i wish la roche posay was more accessible to me. :(
ReplyDeleteLRP products are SO good. I need to stock up on my favorite Effaclar cleansing gel & Toleriane moisturizer before I leave France and move to Canada! It's so overpriced there!
ReplyDeleteTry Hydraphase Intense Legere! I think that is the best for irritated/acne prone/combination skin! Although I think I like all La Roche Posay products!!!!
ReplyDeletedefinitely one of my favourite brands for skincare :)
DeleteI truly think that La Roche-Posay products are so underrated! I think this is the one skin care line that delivers. Effaclar K and Effaclar Duo are staples for me. I also use Effaclar foam gel to wash my face when my skin feels a bit irritated and super dry and that does the job if you are acne-prone.
ReplyDeleteI have to try that foam wash! I have the effaclar gel and I find it super drying so maybe the foam wash is better
DeleteSounds like a raving review. I need a good lotion too. Skin's so dry :O(

The Cicaplast sounds promising, I have dry skin and love La Roche Posay products. They do not ever disappoint.
ReplyDeleteit's a pretty cool product, especially for winter time!
DeleteI have just started using this line and I too am so impressed. They don't do any advertising and I think people are finally figuring out what an incredible product line they have!
ReplyDeletethey're quite popular in Europe but here they're kind of under the radar... LOVE their stuff and I am happy you do too
DeleteI've heard loads about this product especially from beauty guru's on youtube. Might to try them, especially as I'm prone to breakouts too!

Hey Sandra,
ReplyDeleteYou were the one who first introduced me to LRP & I must thank U for that, else I'd never have checked LRP products :)
I love the Effaclar Duo & the M moisturizer!
Cheers & I hope your feel better completely :)
Hey Sandra! I love that nail polish you posted a picture of on instagram, where did you get it? (I'm from Toronto) I looked in a few Rexalls' and only found a lavender and light blue version.
ReplyDeletehi Kaitlyn! I got it from Superstore! hope you find it xo
Deletei've tried toleriana range and sadly my skin just hates it :( it gets all red, hot and tight and i get a rash as a bonus. so i'm still on the look for the perfect routine for my extremly sensitive skin during wintertime.
ReplyDeletei'm so glad it's working for you though :)
I love ur blog <3 plz check mine out and add if u like it :) follow me ill follow you

Hey Sandra, how do you use cicaplast? As a primer?
ReplyDeletesometimes as a primer, sometimes I just slap it on overnight - works well both ways :)
DeleteHey Sandra, do you moisturizer after soothing protective skincare lotion from the Toleriane range? Because i have the same situation as you had before. And i am looking for some product which is suit me well.

This is just the write up I was looking for! Just ordered the dry skin version from Ulta yesterday. Shipped already and should be here Monday! I've been trying out Bourjois Healthy Mix all last week and it does not agree with my skin :( It's a shame bc I really like the finish. Thanks for the recommendation Sandra.
ReplyDeleteI do have very similar skin to yours. Very oily, spot prone. The only thing that keep my face clear is effaclar K. I do tried it after your recommendation and I loved the effect. I use it in the evening, and in morning I use avene anti redness cream for oily skin-which dosnt cause any problems for my skin, but is not the best one either.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how your skin would behave avter avene clenance K? waiting for review!:)
I do also have very sensitive skin, and use Pai cleanaser which I highly recommend you to try, as it leaves the skin smooth and hydrated:)
I love the La Roche Posay sunscrees, will have to try some other products out too!

Anyhow, just wondering have you tried using a natural botox alternative? Wanting to read reviews from a real woman by it.
