Skincare Saviours!

One product is new, one product is old... but La Roche Posay is keeping me happy :)

If you follow me on Twitter, you will know that during the past couple of weeks my skin started reacting negatively to something. I can't quite pin-point the cause since I haven't used any exfoliating acids in a  long time or anything. But there had been 3 heavily fragranced products, 1 lotion and 2 Bourjois foundations, that I had been using daily since my big flare-up so I just blamed those.
At night my skin would get so red and irritated even after cleansing with the gentle cleansers I've used for a long time. It would feel sore and tight no matter how gentle I cleansed. I had dry patches where my breakouts had started to clear (with the help of another one of my La Roche Posay staples - Effaclar Duo spot treatment) so on them I used Cicaplast, as I usually do.

I am not sure if I mentioned this product before, but I have owned it for a while now ever since I saw it used as a makeup primer in Lisa Eldridge's acne covering video. It is a gentle and effective skincare product designed for irritated skin (post procedures like chemical peels, etc.) and it acts like a protective barrier that boosts the skin's capability to repair itself. I use it at night on any flaky over-exfoliated sensitive areas and it's great.

However, my skin was still feeling awful, it needed something more. Since I discontinued the use to my super-fragranced lotion and my skin was feeling tight, I perused the aisles of Shoppers Drug Mart in search of a rescue. Naturally I turned to La Roche Posay again. I chose the soothing protective skincare lotion from the Toleriane range and I was NOT disappointed.
Dare I say this is the best lotion I've ever used? I chose the version for normal/combination skin since I am  quite oily, but they also have an "ultra" formula for dry skins.
The texture is milky, it's gentle, it soothes the skin instantly, and it sinks in without leaving any greasy residue. It also has no scent at all. I am obsessed. After 2 days of using it morning and night, my redness has almost completely subsided.

If you suffer from sensitive yet oily/combination skin like me and are in search of a new lotion - check this one out. I am SO happy that I did.

  2. Yay, it's great that you found a moisturizer that your skin loves! I was never really interested that much in the La Roche Posay skincare before, I assumed that as there were no revolutionary ingredients in most of their products, they just wouldn't do anything. But now, Toleriane Ultra and Lipikar Baume AP for the body are two of my absolute everyday staples, so I guess sometimes less is really more (oh, look at me, being so philosophical about skincare:). Also, your post just reminded me that I need to try Cicaplast as well :)

    1. sometimes, especially when dealing with skin sensitivity, i find that the "less is more" analogy really does work (for me at least). Toleriane has made me so happy lately haha

  5. Gosh you sound like me! Two months ago suddenly my skin went nuts. I found out my skin can not tolerate Jojobo oil and Retinol and recently got the itches from Clarins aswell.

I have been using Cicoplast by LRP as well and Im using a daily moisturizer by Weleda at the moment or Citaphil. I started using Clarins as well, but it left me with rough patches on my skin :(

I never ever had that many problems with my skin, yes it was dry and sensitive but never really had dry and flaky patches before.

Im def. going to try soothing protective skincare lotion, thank you so much for this article!!

  7. glad to hear you found yourself some rescuers!
it's funny 'cause I just came home from doing a little shopping and I too got myself some La Roche-Posay saviors :D
well, one is actually from Avène but still ;)
I'm so grateful that there are brands (Liz Earle, La Roche-Posay, Avène..) who aren't selling rubbish stuff that is supposed to help when actually it's making things worse.. like most products in skincare, ugh. a big yay for calming & gentle skincare!

  10. LRP products are SO good. I need to stock up on my favorite Effaclar cleansing gel & Toleriane moisturizer before I leave France and move to Canada! It's so overpriced there!

  11. Try Hydraphase Intense Legere! I think that is the best for irritated/acne prone/combination skin! Although I think I like all La Roche Posay products!!!!

  12. I truly think that La Roche-Posay products are so underrated! I think this is the one skin care line that delivers. Effaclar K and Effaclar Duo are staples for me. I also use Effaclar foam gel to wash my face when my skin feels a bit irritated and super dry and that does the job if you are acne-prone.

    1. I have to try that foam wash! I have the effaclar gel and I find it super drying so maybe the foam wash is better

  24. This is just the write up I was looking for! Just ordered the dry skin version from Ulta yesterday. Shipped already and should be here Monday! I've been trying out Bourjois Healthy Mix all last week and it does not agree with my skin :( It's a shame bc I really like the finish. Thanks for the recommendation Sandra.

  25. I do have very similar skin to yours. Very oily, spot prone. The only thing that keep my face clear is effaclar K. I do tried it after your recommendation and I loved the effect. I use it in the evening, and in morning I use avene anti redness cream for oily skin-which dosnt cause any problems for my skin, but is not the best one either.
I wonder how your skin would behave avter avene clenance K? waiting for review!:)
I do also have very sensitive skin, and use Pai cleanaser which I highly recommend you to try, as it leaves the skin smooth and hydrated:)

Never tried using this but after reading your reviews I will definitely would like to try!!! :D

Anyhow, just wondering have you tried using a natural botox alternative? Wanting to read reviews from a real woman by it.

I stumble upon this Richibrown Organic Natox from http://botoxalternative.co, said to be a natural botox alternative and some other product I found online.

If you happen to know one product or two, please share.

    Big thanks,
