Summer Skincare Finds from Bioderma

Ah, summer time... the sun is shining, the birds are singing, aaaaand my skin is an oily mess.

Luckily a couple of weeks ago as I was perusing the skincare aisles of my drug store in search for something new (I had used up the last bits of La Roche Posay and Avene skincare) and the Bioderma Sebium range caught my eye. The entire range is designed for oily/combination skin that is acne prone. Ding ding!

I picked up two things:
Sebium Mat, which is a sebum-regulating lightweight daytime moisturizer and Sebium AKN which is also a lightweight lotion that is supposed to help clear out congested pores and blackheads over time. I've been using it at night after I cleanse and tone.

While I can't exactly say that Sebium Mat does anything revolutionary in terms of mattifying my skin or helping with oil production, it does feel nice and hydrating while being lightweight. Feels nice and refreshing in the morning and I am enjoying using it so far.

The real winner for me so far is Sebium AKN. It reminds me of the old formula of my beloved La Roche Posay Effaclar K before they went and made it all funky on me. It has helped keep congested/blocked pores at bay while feeling hydrating and refreshing when applied. It can be used morning or night... I mainly use it at night but if I'm feeling extra gross I will use it in the morning as well instead of the Sebium Mat. It works well in conjunction with my spot treatment, which is still Effaclar Duo by La Roche Posay... I apply that on any blemishes as the final step of my skincare routine before I go to bed, if I have any!

The only down side? Sebium AKN is only 30mL, costs $27 and I can see myself going through about a bottle of this stuff every 2 months. They do make a Sebium AI lotion that's supposed to be more intensive and help prevent the proliferation of acne-causing bacteria but so far I'm happy with AKN and Mat in my summertime skincare routine.

Do you change your skincare routine in the summer time? What products do you reach for?

  1. I absolutely love the smell of the Bioderma products. I'm tempted to go buy the AKN because of your post but I have a ton of LRP products that I have yet to use up. $27 for 30 mL is quite pricey in comparison to LRP. LRP has never disappointed me so I'm hesitant to try a new line. Thanks for the post!

  3. I Find Effaklar M to be really good for mattifying, especially in the summer months.

  4. Great reviews! I've been eyeing this line for a while, since my skin is combo/acne-prone and also sensitive. The AKN looks interesting! I don't change my routine in the summer too much, since I find that many oil-control products are drying and irritating, but I am on the search for a gentle mattifying primer :)

  5. I've had great experience with Bioderma Sensibio H2O. The beloved Lisa Eldridge recommended Sébium Pore refiner as a primer for combo/oily skin. I've been meaning to try that one out for some time. It looks like I'm gonna have to try Sébium AKN as well. ;) Thanks for the review!

  7. The Sébium AKN looks interesting! I've been suffering from a breakout for more than a month now, but regular spot treatments make my skin sting. I also have slightly combination skin, so hopefully this will be hydrating enough but can still get rid of my blemishes.

    1. You should definitely be able to find it in France, and at a much better price since it's a French brand! my mom's friend bought me some of the Bioderma cleansing water before and it was half the price we pay for it here in Canada! xox

  11. Used to use them in Romania ages ago, the Sebium AKN is really good for pore minimizing and also has an astringent effect. Love Bioderma.

  12. You should definitely try the Body Shop's Seaweed Mattifying Moisture Cream ($16 I think?). It smells so clean and it is almost cooling on application. Once it settles on to your skin it really does the trick when it comes to mattifying your skin. And it lasts for quite some time, I found this trying to avoid the 3pm makeup shine that happens while i'm still at work! Xo

  13. I was just looking at both of these this morning and wondered whether or not to buy them. I loved the old LRP Effaclar K formula until they changed it and it stopped working for me! Will definitely pick these up now :) xx

  16. Hi there,

I have been an avid follower of your blog. <3 I am using Dermalogical barrier repair. It's a light weight moisturiser & has the silicony feel to it. I've tried smashbox photo finish primer & that breaks me out like hell breaks loose. With Dermalogical, it's one of the best I've tried so far, my makeup stays matte for almost the whole day with minimal blotting.

The skincare you've raved, I've tried & it works. Thanks!! x

  19. I used Effaclar K since 2007, and had clear skin with it. Then the new formula came out and I started breaking out. I'm definitely going to try the Sebium AKN -- THANK YOU for the recommendation!
