My Current Skincare Heroes

Cue the angels singing, people - I haven't had any skin issues in over a month and I feel like this must be documented.
Last fall/winter my skin went dry and crazy, this past summer it went oily overload... I thought I lost hope.
Slowly but surely, as I started incorporating some new products into my usual routine, my skin started getting really nice. Here are the standouts from the past couple of months, old and new:

If you would have told me I'd love a SOAP for my face, I would have thought you were crazy. On a particularly oily day I decided to give this a whirl with my Clarisonic. It balanced my oily skin so perfectly, I can't rave about it enough.
Now, it's a bit drying for everyday use but twice a week I use this with the Clarisonic and it has kept the oil in check.
If you're in Canada, you can find Sibu products at some Rexall drug stores. The line is also available at Whole Foods or online.

This baby replaced my Alpha H Liquid Gold. It's a toner that contains 8% glycolic acid and I use it nightly. This costs less than the Alpha H Liquid Gold and it gave me more visible results. It helps fade some old post-acne scars and really helped refine my skin texture, especially on my cheeks!
Note: as far as I know, you can only get this brand at Canadian drug stores.

I raved about this in this blog post, so I won't go on in too much detail. Basically since I started using a glycolic acid toner on a daily basis I figured it was a good idea to buy a daily moisturizer with a good SPF in it in order to prevent against further darkening of scars.

I've been mentioning this baby in my skincare routine videos on my YouTube channel for over a year now. I bought it on a whim from Shoppers Drug Mart using my reward points and it has remained one of my "Lazy Sunday" staples. I use it about once a week if my skin is feeling dull and dehydrated. It contains a plethora of hydrating ingredients yet doesn't feel heavy or greasy on the skin at all. It just keeps the skin cells nice and plump, with a gorgeous refreshing scent!

Also purchased this on a whim a couple of months ago and I tend to use it as my night time moisturizer every other day. It sinks in effortlessly, hydrates my skin and doesn't contribute to oil production.

An acne-fighting best friend. I've been using this for years and it still remains my spot treatment of choice :)

In conclusion, I am embracing my skin going from super dehydrated oil slick to normal with oily tendencies in the T zone like a regular human. I think the mixture of keeping the skin hydrated and frequent exfoliation really agrees with me at the moment.

Have you made any new skincare discoveries lately?

  2. I think we have similar skin types (or had!) I'm jealous of your "normal" skin...would the Dior mask make acne prone skin worse?

  4. I really want to try the La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo. And a glycolic acid toner sounds like a good idea for me, I have lots of dark scarring from previous acne that hasn't faded with time x

  6. Let me just say I am so envious of your skin. Oh how I wish I had made some new skincare discoveries. This semester of studies I have been dealing with a horrible breakout. I tried the effaclar duo and didn't do anything. I also heard good things from the ole henriksen line and once again just didn't do anything for me. So now $80 worth of products are just sitting on my counter, because I don't know what to do with them since the products made my skin worse :/

  8. I'm so tired - I just read "My Current Skincare Hoes". It was pretty funny!

I'm totally curious about that NeoStrata Toning solution! From the packaging, you'd never know it has such a high content of glycolic acid! This is something I'll have to keep my eye out for.

  12. i do really love the Acne Blemish Control Skin Clearing Treatment from Kiehls - it works wonders for my skin - my skin clears up within a week an the scars fade faster - best thing about it: it works for my sensitive skin and doesn't dry out like a mofo:)

  13. New dicsovery for me is Pai Echium eye cream. Apart from that I'm faithful to Alpha-H balancing cleanser, effclar K and Sibu Serum,as well. I'm on the hunt for a face cream for normal to combo but dehydrated and sensitive acne prone skin. Should be easy.

  18. I've been using both of the Sibu products and love them. I went on a crazy try all new skin care at once, which turned out to be a bad idea. And am now trying to get my skin back to normal by going back to what I know works.

  22. Sibu is great! I have tried the moisturizer and it isn't hydrating enough for winter for me, but perfect for the summer. The serum is awesome and light yet hydrating, and the soap is great especially in the mornings. I don't have acne prone skin, but have been getting some annoying and stubborn spots, will the Roche posey spot treatment work on these stubborn zits?

  23. The Sibu Facial Soap sounds exactly like what I need...so tired of having such oily skin!
