Givenchy Teint Couture Foundation

Spoiler Alert: I love this foundation.

On a random winter's day I had a Sephora gift card, time on my hands and a pale complexion. All my foundations were a bit too dark for me so it was the perfect opportunity to try something new. This is my first foray into Givenchy cosmetics. I associate the brand with Riccardo Tisci and his breathtaking womenswear creations so I tend to forget about the cosmetics division of the Givenchy brand.

Givenchy Teint Couture claims to be a "long-wearing" "illuminating" and "comfortable" and I have to say that it delivers in all aspects. This is everything I wanted Chanel Perfection Lumiere to be (I reviewed that foundation here). It is long-wearing, has a true satin finish and is incredibly lightweight. I apply it with a beauty blender sponge and get light/medium coverage. The coverage can be built up to medium. It lasts all day on my oily skin, does not cling on to dry patches, doesn't break me out and feels extremely comfortable. The price point is steep at $49 ($59 CAD), but it falls in the same range as Chanel/YSL/Armani/Guerlain bases.

The shade I have is #4 "Elegant Beige". It's a great match for light/medium skin with warm undertones. It does dry down about half a shade darker than when you first pump it out, so keep that in mind. In the photo I am wearing it with no concealer so you can see that it evens out the skin tone while looking extremely natural and it doesn't cover everything up like a mask. I have never been a fan of heavy coverage makeup so this formula is exactly up my alley :)

I can see this working on numerous different skin types, except maybe if your skin is super dry. I have combination/oily skin and this lasts a good 6-8 hours on me without blotting. When my skin is more oily, I powder it with NARS Translucent Pressed Powder or Hourglass Ambient Powder in Dim. When my skin is more normal, I don't even need to powder this and it still lasts all day. It has SPF 20 in it but causes no dramatic flash back in photos.

The verdict… it's a winner. Only downside (as it is with many of these types of brands) is the colour selection. It only comes in 8 shades. If you can find one that suits your skin tone and you're in the market for a foundation that can take you from day to night while looking naturally perfect, get thee to a Sephora quickly!!

  1. Great review. Haven't tried any Givenchy foundations but I'll definitely keep my eye on this one next time. Xo

  2. Lovely! I agree, actually ALL guerlain foundations are superb! What blush and lippie are you wearing in this photo? gorgeous!

    1. thank you! the blush is Royal Sunset by MAC, and the lip combo is NARS Sex Machine with Hourglass femme nude stylo in #3… such a good nude combo! xx

  3. Wow, that looks absolutely gorgeous on you. I don't like heavy foundations either. For some reason, it just looks SO OBVIOUS on me.

  4. Looks great, nice finish, will have to keep in mind for future purchase...darnit. :)

  5. I was quite impressed with Givenchy makeup and skincare. Like you, I always associate the brand with fashion, but try their make up and skincare, it's also quite amazing.

  6. Ooh, this sounds perfect! It's hard to find a long-wearing, oily skin-friendly foundation that's also lightweight and not totally matte. Will have to check this out! Looks lovely on you :)

  7. I need to try this. I found Chanel Perfection Lumiere to be very frustrating. It looked nice some days, then others terrible. I have Nars Sheer Glow and MUFE HD, but I would like something lighter for summer. I need to give this a sample try!

  8. I always really like your skincare and foundation suggestions as we have very similar skin type, so I'm excited to give this Givenchy one a try! I've also heard great things about the new Guerlain Tenue de Perfection. Lisasz09 did a review on it and she said that one was also very long lasting. Have you considered giving that foundation a try?

  9. Looks amazing great blog you have!

  10. Sound so good!! - love the packaging! :))
