Cleansin' Wednesday: Origins Clean Energy Gentle Cleansing Oil

Balms, micellar waters, creams, lotions, milks – oh my! There are so many options when it comes to makeup removal, and cleansing oils are amongst my favourite. For many years I was scared by the concept of using an oil on my already very oily (and acne-prone) skin. But fear not, because cleansing oils have come a long way and most are made with great non-comedogenic ingredients suitable for even the most sensitive of skins. I have been using and enjoying the Origins Clean Energy Gentle Cleansing Oil for the last month and it ticks all right right boxes.

It has the consistency of olive oil and kind of looks like olive oil as well. It comes in a clear plastic bottle with a screw-top lid. I’m always complaining about packaging so I’ll say it here as well – I would have liked to see a pump because I find pouring it out directly into the hands quite wasteful since most of the time you pour our more product than you need. They have a pump available but you have to buy it separately... womp.

In terms of consistency, it’s slightly thicker than the MAC Cleanse-off oil which is a product I used for years. The scent is light and herbal and oddly relaxing which makes for a nice experience when you massage it into dry skin at the end of a long day. It quickly works to start melting the makeup off and once you rinse it off with water (and a warm washcloth – my preferred way) your skin is free of makeup, comfortable and hydrated. I like to cleanse with a foaming cleanser afterwards to ensure my skin is extra clean but if you wear minimal makeup throughout the day, a cleansing oil like this is enough for your cleansing needs.

This awesome cleansing oil retails for $25 (200mL bottle) and you can find it at The Bay (in Canada)  Boots (in the UK) and Origins online!

Do you like cleansing oils? Which ones have stood out from the crowd?

  1. This looks a lot like the SHu Uemura oil which I have been using, besides the description with the herbal smell etc sounds pretty much exact. How does it compare to that?

  3. I wanted this for ages, picked it up, thought it smelt pretty good and was really disappointed! I found it messy and hard to work it and it was a little too oily for me!

  6. I keep promising myself that next time I need a cleanser I will try a cleansing oil, but I always end up going back to my cream and gel cleansers... Next time though I will stick to my promise, and I might do it with this one.

  7. I'm not sure if you have Body Shop in Canada Sandra, but they do a Camomile Cleansing Oil (with a pump included!) that is absolutely fantastic for removing make up and doesn't cause break outs either. If you can get your hands on it, it's worth a try!
